Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Sister to join our team at Royal Derby Hospital, Cardiac Catheter Suite.

The Cardiac Catheter Suite comprises of two theatre rooms, soon to be 3 rooms in 2025. The team supports the Cardiology consultants in performing percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), or simple and complex devices (pacemakers).  The cardiac catheter suite is a day case unit that supports the cardiology flow in the Trust, and the imminent Cath Lab Replacement programme will support the flow and increase our cardiology activity through our theatre rooms.

The post holder will show a particular interest in Cardiology and Day Case Activity . Full responsibility, accountability, and leadership, will be needed for the daily management and organisation of the cath labs. This will require assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation of the specialty needs closely working with the operational management team.

Focus will be required to work closely with fellow Lead Practitioners (Radiographers and Physiologists) and Senior Sisters from all the cardiology areas in conjunction with the Operational Manager and Matron across the wider UHDB team, ensuring smooth, efficient and effective pre, intra and post operative care delivery.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will  provide clinical management, staffing management, operational support and leadership for the Cardiac Catheter Suite to ensure a patient focused care delivery. This will incorporate undertaking a co-ordinator role, management of day-to-day activities, trouble shooting and working collaboratively with MDT to maximise efficiency of the service. A keen interest in driving and developing the Cardiology Strategy Plan is required.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for financial budgets, targets and cost savings with regular finance meeting. 

Ensuring that Guidelines, National and Local policies, Infection control measures, Audit collection and Quality Assurance is maintained and adhered too. From these assessments to provide improvement pathways to ensure best practice is achieved, which is evidenced based.
