Job overview
We are looking to employ Senior Clinical Fellows on a 12-month fixed term contract to work within our busy Maternity and Gynaecology department at the Royal Derby Hospital.
Fellowships will be available with training opportunities in any of the following specialties : Foetal Medicine, Maternal Medicine, Urogynaecology, Reproductive medicine or Ambulatory Gynaecology. Please state the fellowship you would be looking to apply for within your supporting statement.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake clinical sessions with duties within all areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. When on call during the day time, the post holder will be included in the Registrar on call rota covering Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The post holder will also participate in an emergency OOHs shift rota. It is anticipated that the post holder will work flexibly within the department with exposure to different sub-specialties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This is a whole time Trust appointment initially for 12 months, with the possibility of an extension for a second year. It is ideally suited for a trainee in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Applicants must possess MRCOG part I, Specialty Registrar Year 3 or above (or equivalent) experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology & be able to provide evidence of a Personal Development Plan & Log Book.
The post does not carry a National Training Number (NTN), therefore applicants with an NTN should negotiate with their Training Programme Director for out-of-training experience.
The post holder will be expected to supervise & train postgraduate junior medical staff & participate in various teaching programmes for postgraduate students.
Clinical Responsibilities
The post holder will undertake clinical sessions with duties within all areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. When on call during the day time, the post holder will be included in the SpR on call rota covering Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The post holder will also participate in an emergency OOHs shift rota.
Person specification
Qualifications and Eligibility
Essential criteria
- MBBS / MBChB or equivalent
- MRCOG part 1 and part 2
- Life Support Qualifications - Advanced Life Support
- CTG Training
- Full GMC Registration with a license to practice at time of application
- Minimum 24 months NHS experience
Desirable criteria
- Additional higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the specialty
- Attendance at a recent MDT training course such as PrOMPT
- MRCOG
Clinical Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) to join the ST3-5 rota (MT04 national salary), or seven years' to be applicable for the Senior ST6+ (MT05 national salary) rota.
- Satisfies the RCOG curriculum matrix for ST3 or above in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Up to date clinical knowledge in the relevant specialty & evidence of an understanding of its application
Desirable criteria
- 12 months NHS experience at ST3+ level in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Experience of working on a middle grade rota in the NHS.
Management & Administravie Experience
Desirable criteria
- Attended a management/leadership course
Teaching, Audit and Research Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence & experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students
- Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills
- Evidence and ability to assess & apply evidence-based research into every day clinical practice
- Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements relevant to the specialty
- Experience of formal presentations
Desirable criteria
- Any teaching courses or qualifications.
