Employee Relations Advisor

Job overview

The role of ER Advisor will focus on advising managers on employee relations matters including sickness management, disciplinary, grievance, performance, probation and capability.

Reporting to the People Partner Managers you will work in a flexible manner to facilitate employee relations hearings across the Trust and will not have an allocated area of the Trust to support, therefore a flexible approach is required.

The role will support the Strategic People Partners in implementation of actions to facilitate Trust strategies and support local management with advice and guidance on employee relations matters ensuring appropriate and informed decisions are made.

A key element of the role is to ensure high quality data is recorded in applicable systems and data compliance is maintained at all times.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for advising managers on HR advice relating to stage 3 sickness hearings across the Trust, ensuring appropriate and accurate information is given to hearing chairs to facilitate decision making.

Advise managers on complex employee relations processes including serious misconduct disciplinaries, stage 2 grievances, performance and development, and probationary hearings. Have a good understanding of employment law as well as relevant Trust policy and processes in order to provide robust, appropriate advice. 

Maintain an understanding and working knowledge of current employment legislation and best practice, ensuring that these are reflected in the work you undertake and the advice you provide.

Educationa and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • CIPD Level 5 or substantial evidence of continuing professional and personal development equivalent to this level
  • Recent evidence of continuing professional development and a willingness to continue CPD on an ongoing basis.
  • Full UK driving licence
Desirable criteria
  • CIPD Level 3
  • NHS Job Evaluation trained

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of HR working practices, employment law, employee relations
  • Provision of advice to managers or service users.
  • Significant previous office experience preferably within HR or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions of Service
  • Significant experience of Payroll/HR IT-based systems and procedures
Desirable criteria
  • Experience within an NHS People function
  • Knowledge of ESR System
