Are you a highly motivated and enthusiastic Vehicle Technician able to carry out maintenance and repairs across a range of vehicles and equipment?  

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of an evolving team, maintaining and repairing vehicles critical to ensuring our front line crews are ready and able to treat our patients when they most need us. We are seeking to grow and further develop our services and are therefore looking for individuals to work across our sites within the South West providing a 7 x day Fleet & equipment maintenance service keeping our vehicles in an excellent condition and on the road.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Vehicle Technician for South Western Ambulance Service provides an opportunity to work as part of friendly professional team working in a workshop based environment ensuring that vehicle and equipment maintenance is carried out to very high standards   It is also provides opportunities to develop your career with us either within the Fleet and Equipment team or within the wider Trust in both patient-facing and a variety of support roles.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HND in Mechanical/ electrical or electronic engineering or equivalent, OR knowledge demonstrated at equivalent standard gained through relevant experience/training
  • Recognised Motor Vehicle Indentured Apprenticeship or training scheme
  • Motor Vehicle Craft Studies Parts 1,2 & 3. or Motor Vehicle Technicians Parts 1,2 & 3 or BTEC equivalent
  • Current clean driving license minimum C1.
Desirable criteria
  • Qualified to C1E+D1E driving license.

Previous experience (Paid/ Unpaid relevant to job)

Essential criteria
  • Has significant experience of fault finding / diagnosis within a vehicle /electronic / mechanical / engineering field
  • Proficient experience of using diagnostic equipment to fault find within a medical device and equipment capacity
  • Previous experience of using a variety of complex tools and equipment to carry out technical / engineering repairs
Desirable criteria
  • Has significant experience of servicing, repairing of medical equipment
  • Has previous experience of diagnosing and repairing vehicles and equipment in a supervisory / management capacity
  • Knowledge and experience of the use and operation of a quality management system such as ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 13485:2012
  • Is able to demonstrate, previous experience of fault finding /diagnosis within an NHS or Ambulance Service environment
