Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) is the place to be!

We are excited to be advertising for a B7 0.4 WTE Specialist Speech and Language Therapist who will provide a high standard of Speech and Language therapy (SLT) service to young people who are being supported by Devon Youth Justice  Services They will act as a source of expertise on SLT, providing supervision, training and guidance to a multidisciplinary team regarding specialist assessment and intervention for young people.

Main duties of the job

Work as a  Specialist Speech and Language Therapist within the AACES  Pathway, providing Specialist SLT assessments and interventions for a caseload of complex young people, and provide support to Speech and Language Therapists working in Youth Justoce Services  and across all other integrated pathways as required.

Children and Family Health Devon (CFHD) comprises an Alliance of NHS organisations working together to improve health outcomes for children and young people in Devon and Torbay. 

CFHD provides integrated care and treatment for children and young people across physical and mental health which are provided by Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust and Devon Partnership Trust. We are working closely with other organisations and providers to ensure we deliver locality and county-wide based integrated access to all of our services, based on the i-Thrive Framework, in response to consultation with our service users and communities.

CFHD works closely with our local universities of Plymouth, Exeter & the Peninsula Medical School where we support students in clinical training placements and in addition support our own staff to undertake post graduate training.

Our integrated care and treatment has been developed and refined in partnership with children, young people and their families/carers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Work as a  Specialist Speech and Language Therapist within the AACES  Pathway, providing Specialist SLT assessments and interventions for a caseload of complex young people, and provide support to Speech and Language Therapists working in Youth Justoce Services  and across all other integrated pathways as required.

Screen and triage referrals and ensure a strengths-based approach to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions to support the complex packages of care for children with complex additional needs in the community.

Contribute to risk assessment and care planning in collaboration with children, young people and their carers.

Provide case management of an identified caseload of children and young people with highly complex long-term conditions and complex needs by utilising and promoting evidence-based care.

Essential criteria
  • BSc or Diploma in Speech and Language
  • State registration – current HCPC registration
  • Evidence of relevant CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses relevant clinical area of expertise and/or postgraduate qualification

  • Post graduate leadership certificate
