Job overview

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) is looking for additional doctors with an aptitude for telephone triage. The positions are based in our 999 Emergency Operations Centres in Bristol (BS32 4QJ) and Exeter (EX2 7HY) (please note that remote working is not currently available for the EOC Doctor role).

Please note that we are specifically seeking applications from Drs interested in evening work between the hours of 1800-2300. 

Main duties of the job

Key aspects of the role will include:
• Telephone consultations directly with patients, relatives and/or their carers 
• Working as part of our clinical team to provide primary care support to paramedics, nurses and emergency care practitioners within the EOC along with telephone support to our ambulance clinicians on the road.
• Review, triage and re-prioritisation of 999 calls
• Onward referral to appropriate alternative services

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council on the General Practitioner List or Specialist List (Emergency Medicine)

Skills, Experience and Training

Essential criteria
  • Skilled at managing clinical risk in the context of telephone triage
  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team
  • Clinical experience of urgent and emergency care and systems knowledge
Desirable criteria
  • Formal training in out of hours telephone triage
