Virtual Reality Training Development Technician

This is an opportunity for a diligent technically competent team worker to develop and deliver virtual reality command scenarios using state of the art technology. The successful candidate will be working with the Trust Command Development team and will be working across the whole Trust area. Good interpersonal skills are essential as their will be regular engagement with Trust people, partner agencies & technical suppliers.

Create & deliver virtual reality ambulance emergency commander development scenarios, whilst working as part of a small dedicated team. Technical knowledge and confidence in using all Microsoft applications to support the continual evolution of the Trust command assessment & educational program will be essential along with flexibility and the ability to travel independently to any location in South West England. Due to the Trust geography, there will be occasions where overnight stays are required in different localities.

Swydd-ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

  • This role can be home based, based at a Trust premises (where there is capacity) or a hybrid model of both, but may include travel to other sites within the South Western Ambulance Service [SWASFT] area, and reports to the Command Development Officer
  • This role supports the delivery of the overall Trust’s command development strategy, with responsibility for making sure deadlines are met, and the Virtual Reality Training system development is delivered to a high standard.
  • The post holder will be involved in a range of activities to support the development and technical program writing required for the delivery of the Virtual Reality training system.
  • The recommendations from the Manchester Arena Inquiry includes development of high-fidelity training for all levels of commanders, therefore the post holder is expected to have an agile approach to work, be self-motivated, highly productive, take pride in their own work and be able to work to tight deadlines, in order that the Virtual Reality training systems is fit for this purpose.
  • The post holder will be supervised and supported by the Command Development Officer who will oversee the role. 
  • Provide both written and verbal updates on progress of program writing and development to the Command Development Officer
  • Link to external partner agencies that also run and develop Virtual Reality Training. Work as the primary link between the Trust and the Virtual Reality software providers for technical advice and support.
  • Install and be responsible for the functionality of all the IT hardware and software, video, audio and relevant data networks, visual aids, diagnose faults, investigate problems and rectify, liaising with external specialists when necessary
  • Extensive knowledge of specialist computer program writing.
  • Conversant with the virtual reality simulation training software and undertaken induction training provided by the supplier to manage the system.
  • Moderate experience working with Microsoft Office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Visio and PowerPoint.
  • Some experience working with Information Management and Technology systems in a health care / NHS setting.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse a range of facts or situations with a view to problem-solve project issues to resolution.
  • Ability to make judgements involving a range of facts or situations which require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options.
  • Ability to interpret direction from the Command Management Team on scenario development that aligns with the  National Ambulance Command and Control guidance.
  • Support the Command Development Team with the delivery of the virtual reality project, working closely with suppliers and users of facilities and systems associated with this project.
  • Provide administrative services for project meetings with external partners, including arranging these and taking minutes.
  • Maintain complex project plans.  Adjust plans where targets and deadlines are not met.
  • Moderate computer literacy skills required.

  • Current driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points

Previous Experience
