The Ultrasound Department is recruiting to expand the Ultrasound Imaging Care Assistant (ICA) / Ultrasound Inpatient Coordinator (band 3) workforce. The role of the Imaging Care Assistant is essential to safe and efficient patient flow across the department, responding to the needs of the service to provide support to patients and their clinician during their time in the department.  The post holder must be prepared to work across all sites of the ultrasound service including Derriford Hospital, Plymouth Community Diagnostic Centre and any other locations in future developments.  The post holder must be prepared to work across 7 days of the week including working on evenings, weekends and bank holidays.  

Flexible working patterns can be supported if they fit in with service needs. Please note that depending on experience and qualifications, applicants may start at a band 2 salary rate of pay until all necessary training has been completed.

Main duties of the job

  To facilitate the throughput of patients attending the Imaging Department so as to optimise the use of all resources and minimising delays.

·         To support service delivery during weekdays, weekends, evenings and bank holidays as part of a roster. This incorporates locations at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth Community Diagnostic Centre and other locations in future developments.

·        To register and book inpatients on the computerised radiology system (CRIS) when required.

·        Book patients on to the portering system (Synbiotix).

·         Providing reassurance to patients using the departments giving information to patients about their procedures.

·         Providing emotional and physical support to patients during their treatments.

·         Reporting any faults with equipment.

·         Prepare an aseptic (ANTT) trolley and assist with MSK injections, fine needle aspirations (FNA), contrast and biopsies.

·         Take patient observations when required.

·         Conduct point of care testing when required.

·         Assisting with the preparation of clinical rooms.
