Senior Clinical Fellow in Acute Paediatrics

NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Paediatric Senior Clinical Fellow for a period of 12 months to work in a busy, exciting, supportive, acute paediatric environment. The post provides general paediatric cover on the Tier 2 rota (equivalent to ST3 and above) working on the paediatric inpatient wards, in outpatients and supporting our paediatric emergency department. Supervision and support will be provided at all times by the consultant team.

This post would ideally suit an existing RCPCH trainee looking for an Out Of Programme Experience (OOPE) or a Post CCT Fellow seeking a supported step up to Consultant or those with significant Paediatric experience seeking to obtain portfolio progression.

We have a particular strategic need for those with interests in epilepsy, adolescent care, eating disorders, renal and paediatric emergency medicine.  This should not preclude motivated and keen candidates from applying and we are also interested to hear from those with other interests as well as  developing other areas of service in management, quality improvement.

Main duties of the job

Previous fellows have primarily focussed on medical education and simulation, we welcome interest from those seeking developing skills in quality improvement, management, involvement in project work including IT system roll out or development of service improvement such as adolescent and transition services.  or time for further postgraduate qualifications. We also offer a broad spectrum of Paediatric specialties which would allow a clinical outpatient focus and actively support trainees towards Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health (RCPCH) Specialist Interest (SPIN) modules.

Working for our organisation

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is linked with Plymouth University which has its own medical school on site. There will be ample opportunities to engage with undergraduate teaching or take on a postgraduate qualification. We have an active research programme and dedicated research nurses to support completion of research projects.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicant will support a team of specialist registrars  and Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioners to provide in and out of hours cover on the Tier 2/ middle grade rota. This post is part of our strategy to achieve RCPCH gold standard medical staffing. The shifts are EWTD and Junior Doctor 2016 contract compliant and cover paediatrics only, as there is a separate rota for neonatology.
