Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Radiotherapy Planning department for a full time, Band 3 Senior Assistant Clinical Support Practitioner (Radiotherapy Physics), to join the administration team based at Derriford Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, effective communicator and motivated individual to join our team. The post-holder will be working closely with clinical and administrative colleagues to ensure tasks are completed to a high standard ensuring the smooth running of the service.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clerical services for the Radiotherapy Physics section within the Healthcare Science and Technology Directorate.

The post will provide a wealth of opportunities to develop and broaden abilities.

This role is demanding and interesting and will require someone who is adaptable and able to work under pressure, has attention to detail, skill to manage a variety of tasks to ensure to meet deadlines within the service. The ideal candidate must have a ‘can do’ attitude and ability to use their own initiative with effective communication/interpersonal and IT skills. A friendly and approachable nature are essential for this role as you will be interacting with patients as they embark on their radiotherapy treatment pathway.

Main duties of the job

To co-ordinate and deliver a comprehensive Admin service to Radiotherapy Physics in an efficient and timely manner. This will primarily include work in the Stereotactic and External Beam Radiotherapy services.

 

Working on own initiative and maintaining good communications between the team, patients, carers and other health professionals. 

 

To contribute to the effective delivery of patient treatment pathways.

 

To maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with the Trust Code of Practice.

 

To work in line with the Trust values and professional policies /codes of conduct.

 

To prioritise demand, accommodate unplanned events and work without direct supervision.

 

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3 in either business administration or related subject or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Qualified in word processing or typing qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering a wide range of administrative and secretarial tasks to a high standard in a patient/service focused environment
  • Able to exercise own initiative and prioritise/manage own workload, without direct supervision.
  • Well-developed IT skills, able to accurately manage, manipulate and report information in multiple formats i.e. tracker lists/ spread sheets/ databases etc.
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of Scientific and medical terms.
  • Patient management systems demonstrable experience.

Aptitude and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • High standard of literacy & numerical accuracy.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well to people of all ages and type (empathy, compassion).
  • Adaptability, flexibility and able to manage unpredictable work demands, work patterns and interruptions within the routine workday.
  • Able to undertake duties working prolonged periods of working at a PC workstation.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
Desirable criteria
  • Able to deal with occasional distressing circumstances with patients and relatives attending the Plymouth Oncology centre.
  • Tactfully & confidentially communicate written and verbal information.
  • Able to cope with sensitive nature of work.
