Job overview
Applications are invited from suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist with an interest in Clinical Trials.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, highly adaptable person who is a good team player and communicator and has the ability to liaise effectively with colleagues and service users.
Biomedical Scientists must be registered with the HCPC and have demonstrable experience in a Histology laboratory.
This is a years fixed term contract offering a great opportunity for future progression into a substantive role (subject to funding and recruitment process) for succession planning of the current post holder. This role will support the current post holder, working closely alongside but also gaining valuable Clinical Trials experience from a Histopathology laboratory setting.
Main duties of the job
To provide a clinical technical service by performing a range of routine and specialist techniques to the biological material submitted for examination.
To undertake scientific duties within the Department to facilitate the smooth running of the service.
To maintain and run specialist equipment up to a value of £350,000
To have some understanding of clinical trials, its purpose and GCP.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Participate in all aspects of laboratory clinical trials work.
To work closely with the Trusts Clinical Trials team.
To rotate through sections of the Department as required.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven ability to perform all techniques relevant to the area of work
- An in-depth working proven knowledge and practical application of a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
Desirable criteria
- Practical demonstrable experience using Microsoft Office based applications.
- Demonstrable Clinical Trials experience
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences or a degree acceptable to the IBMS and Health Professions Council (HBC).
- State registration with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist
Desirable criteria
- Associate of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (AIBMS) or Fellowship
Aptitude & Abilities

- Excellent communication skills, being able to deal with patients and staff at all levels of the organisation with tact and diplomacy
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Attention to detail
- Multi-tasking skills

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
