Job overview

We are looking for an innovative and dynamic nurse with proven Dermatology experience to enhance our team by providing expert clinical practice, education, professional leadership and service improvement. The role will be pivotal to working collaboratively with the MDT team, in building capacity and expanding the nurse led services to further shape and deliver the strategic vision of a National Dermatology Centre of Excellence.

This successful candidate will work alongside another ACP and team of CNS nurses to define, shape and develop the Nurse Led Drug Monitoring Service. responsive to the needs of patients and staff, so an interest in inflammatory dermatology is essential.

You will be able to demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge and expertise about treatment options for inflammatory dermatosis and manage a caseload of patients autonomously in nurse led drug monitoring clinics.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as Priority and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

Advanced clinical practice is delivered by experienced, registered health and care practitioners. It is a level of practice characterised by a high degree of autonomy and complex decision making. This is underpinned by a master's level award or equivalent that encompasses the four pillars of clinical practice, leadership and management, education and research, with demonstration of core capabilities and area specific clinical competence.

Advanced clinical practice embodies the ability to manage clinical care in partnership with individuals, families and carers. It includes the analysis and synthesis of complex problems across a range of settings, enabling innovative solutions to enhance people's experience and improve outcomes. (HEE, 2017).

The Inflammatory Dermatology ACP (Advanced Clinical Practitioner) is vital in assessing and managing patients with inflammatory skin conditions, developing treatment plans, monitoring disease progression, administering therapies, providing patient education, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimise care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Assess, differentially diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate individual treatment interventions for patients by virtue of expert clinical judgement and close liaison with members of the MDT.

2. Use expertise and decision-making skills to inform clinical reasoning approaches when dealing with differentiated and undifferentiated individual presentations and complex situations, synthesising information from multiple sources to make appropriate, evidence-based judgements and/or diagnoses.

3. Initiate, evaluate and modify a range of interventions which may include prescribing medicines, therapies, lifestyle advice and care.

4. Exercise professional judgement to manage risk appropriately, especially where there may be complex and unpredictable events and supporting teams to do likewise to ensure safety of individuals, families and carers.

5. Utilise complex decision-making skills to promote high quality care in unpredictable and challenging circumstances.

6. Ensure compliance with their respective code of professional conduct and work within their scope of practice.

7. Works in conjunction with the MDT to clearly define values, direction and policies impacting upon care.

8. Work in partnership with individuals, families and carers, using a range of assessment methods as appropriate

9. Be able to demonstrate a critical understanding of their broadened level of responsibility and autonomy. This includes being critically aware of their limits of their own competence and professional scope of practice, including when working with complexity, risk, uncertainty and incomplete information.

10. Be responsible and accountable for their decisions, actions and omissions at this level of practice.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Statutory Professional Registration.
  • MSc in Advanced Practice or recognised equivalent (as defined by Trust AP policy) or willingness to complete
  • Proven evident of relevant, recent study and continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Education/Mentorship/ Supervision Course
  • Minor Skin Surgery Practice (Degree level) or equivalent

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant demonstrable post qualification experience in a Dermatology or clear identification of transferrable skills based on extensive demonstrable experience in another specialty.
  • Management ability and demonstrable leadership experience
  • Demonstrated Comprehensive theoretical and proven clinical knowledge of dermatological related health
Desirable criteria
  • Proven evidence of involvement in change management
  • Demonstrable experience in the role of self-management in chronic illness and able to assist patients to achieve this effectively
  • Demonstrable experience of managing a complex caseload of patients and leading clinics autonomously

Aptitude & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to recognise and analyse complex situations and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to work with complex and diverse health informatics systems
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to develop protocols and guidelines
