Specialist Paediatric Diabetes Dietitian
NHS AfC: Band 6

The paediatric diabetes dietitian is a senior autonomous practitioner responsible for the provision of an effective and efficient Nutrition and Dietetic service for Children’s diabetes out patient services within Derriford Hospital. The post holder works as part of a patient focused multi-professional team and acts as a source of knowledge and expertise in paediatric diabetes dietetics to Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust and the community it serves. The post holder is involved in all nutrition and dietetic departmental activities and contributes to the delivery of a Trust wide dietetic service.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd
· To work as a team with other paediatric dietitians to provide dietetic care to diabetic out patients referred by the Child Health Directorate. · To provide cover for other paediatric dietitians’ work during absence. · To be responsible for the provision of an outpatient service for patients attending consultant led paediatric diabetes clinics. · To attend case meetings as appropriate. · To undertake appropriate nutritional assessment and dietary treatment of patients referred for dietary advice and design care plans. · To review patients’ and adapt care plans as nutritional requirements change with age, stage of development and clinical status. · To communicate with and educate patients and their parents/carers effectively to translate complex theory into a realistic, understandable format. · To liaise with parents/carers, community health, education and social services in providing for the nutritional needs of patients in the community. · To participate in the production and review of resources to ensure that they are evidence based, up-to-date and in line with Trust policies on document control · To initiate, plan, implement and evaluate multi-professional teaching sessions · To provide a source of expert knowledge and advice on nutrition in paediatrics. · To supervise and monitor the ongoing development of junior dietitians working in paediatrics. |

Qualifications

- BSc in Human & Dietetics or equivalent qualification
- HCPC registered
- Proven evidence of recent PD

- Completion of Clinical Supervisory Skills training course
- A teaching qualification or demonstrable experience of teaching groups.
Knowledge and Experience

- Wide ranging clinical dietetic demonstrable experience
- Proven evidence of a particular proven knowledge in Paediatric Diabetes
- Training/supervisory demonstrable experience

- Computer skills in database use, word processing, spreadsheets and presentations
- Demonstrable experience in standard setting, audit and guidelines
Aptitude and Abilities

- Excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate with all levels of healthcare personnel as well as patients and their parents/carers
- Expertise in the practical skills of nutritional support
- Effective teaching and presentation skills

- Ability to work well within a busy environment
