Job overview

 

The successful candidate will join a team of 6 other middle grade doctors in the ENT department including 3 Specialist Registrars, a Rhinology Fellow and 2 Trust grade doctors. They will receive training in theatres, outpatient clinics and contribute to the middle grade on call rota.

 

The successful candidate will also be offered an honorary University Fellow role with the Peninsula Medical School and receive training in teaching and assessment methods. They will be involved in teaching medical and physician associate students in the department

Main duties of the job

This post is suitable for trainees wishing to enhance their academic profile in ENT in both research and medical education or those wishing to obtain a higher degree in the speciality. The post holder will work as part of a team of seven middle grade doctors and will participate in the second on call rota. The post holder will have two teaching clinics, two flexible operative sessions, three outpatient clinics and three research sessions per week. The post holder will work mainly with Prof Hisham Khalil, Mr Yazan Kanaan and Mr Marios Stavrakas. The post offers the successful candidate experience in clinical research, teaching and assessment of medical students and clinical experience in Otolaryngology in a department with a wide range of sub-specialisation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The ENT research Fellow post is an excellent opportunity for an ENT trainee with an interest in academic ENT Surgery to enhance their research and clinical education credentials.

Qaulifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Successful completion of MRCS or equivalent at time of application

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment
  • Two years’ experience at core surgical trainee level or equivalent including at least 12 months in ENT Surgery.
  • Evidence of completion of Specialty Registrar year 4 or equivalent competences in surgery at time of application

Language skills

Essential criteria
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues

Attitude and motivation

  • Evidence that present achievement and performance is commensurate with totality of period of training
