Viral Hepatitis GP Champion

Job overview
The GP Champion will take an active role in viral hepatitis case finding in the primary care population, as well as deliver clinical education for colleagues and support patient linkage to care. Administrative support for the post holder will be facilitated through the ODN team.
The successful candidate will lead on operational and clinical conversations with GPs within South West Peninsula Hepatitis C Operational Delivery Network (SWP HCV ODN) footprint alongside GP champions nationwide. The role will include working collaboratively with local practices, requiring strong facilitation, and influencing skills. The post holder will work closely with members of the ODN and the national HCV Elimination Programme Team.
Main duties of the job
Facilitate collaborative working between Primary Care and the and contributing to a wider conversation around BBV.
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of viral hepatitis.
Monitor and evaluate the BBV Champion Programme.
To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· Facilitate active educational engagement with primary care to increase identification, viral hepatitis testing and improve delivery of care to HCV positive patients.
· Promote reduction of onward transmission of viral hepatitis.
· Promote understanding of issues affecting HCV / BBV testing practice within primary care.
· Influence change within primary care.
· Establish credibility with peers and local primary care colleagues.
· Form effective working relationships across sectors.
· Utilise an established algorithm (e.g. PSI tool) in general practices to identify patients at risk of viral hepatitis for review
· Lead a programme to evaluate these patients collaborating closely with GP practices, the Trust, the ODN and other key stakeholder.
· Use expertise to engage and re-engage HCV positive patients – particularly those in vulnerable situations
· Advise when electronic health records require update with treatment and infection status

Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
