Would you like a job in the largest hospital in the South West as a MRI Practice Educator Radiographer? Do you have strong clinical and educational skills in MRI & want to develop and lead Practice Education in our MRI service?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as a B7 MRI Practice Educator in UHPT MRI  Imaging. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic HCPC registered Radiographer to join our dynamic  MRI team at UHPT. Applications are welcomed from radiographers with demonstrable post graduate NHS experience within an acute setting as a senior B6/7 MRI radiographer, with sound current clinical proven knowledge of MRI, with current clinical expertise.

 Our scanners operate 7 days, including, bank holidays and weekends, and there is also an out-of-hours on call service from home.

There is a CPD calendar with active participation from staff, and we support and encourage radiographers in their career development, including post-graduate study. Several MRI Radiographers comment on orbit radiographs, there are reporting Radiographers, and an advanced Cardiac MRI practitioner.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

As a Practice Educator, you would be expected to provide clinical excellence, liaise with all service users (including two HEI's and regional stakeholders), lead educational development for the MRI Team and learners, whilst consistently providing effective and efficient leadership. This role will be expected to provide support across the whole MRI team in the absence of the MRI Modality Lead Radiographer.

The department hosts undergraduate radiographers on placement from the University of Exeter and the University of Plymouth as well as training apprentice assistant practitioners and radiographers, so you will be expected to be actively involved in their training and supervision as part of your role, whilst supporting the wider team. 

This position carries a commitment to Agenda for Change compliant 7 day working at Derriford Hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centre. You will be expected to work flexible hours across the week.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To undertake the role of the MRI Practice Educator contributing to the training, education, supervision and mentoring of the MRI workforce and learners within the MRI team. Lead and facilitate practice education with the support of clinical and academic colleagues.
  • To provide a high level of clinical and compassionate leadership for the team and all learners within the imaging footprint. Demonstrate leadership qualities to others through role modelling and promoting a culture of lifelong learning.
  • Provide greater access to high quality training and development within the MRI Team and in doing so improve retention. Link clinical education and practice and assist in bridging the gap.
  • To supervise, advise and mentor staff, and oversee and assist in the training of new staff, students, apprentices and existing staff ensuring continuous development of the team to enable adequate cover and to meet ongoing demands of the service.
  • To work collaboratively with other health and social care leads across the Trust as appropriate and promote the role of imaging to all stakeholders. Maintain good working relationships with higher education institutions.
  • To work autonomously to carry out diagnostic radiography and specialised procedures within the MRI department
  • To adhere to the current MHRA guidelines and work safely within the health and safety regulations.
  • To participate in the weekend and on-call service for the MRI department

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current HCPC registration
  • BSc in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent
  • Willingness to undertake further study related to speciality.
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate qualification in Clinical Education.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive demonstrable clinical experience in MRI.
  • Previous demonstrable experience at a senior level within MRI.
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of NHS policies and documents
  • Demonstrable MRI experience

Aptitude & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate innovation through the development of new ideas to enhance the learning environment and the opportunities offered to learners
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal, with proven ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity, and effectiveness at all levels
