🩺 About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Interventional Radiology (IR) Lead Nurse/ODP to provide clinical, operational, and professional leadership within our expanding IR service. This is a pivotal role supporting the delivery of safe, high‑quality, patient‑centred care across a wide range of interventional procedures, including vascular, non‑vascular, oncology, and emergency interventions.
You will work closely with the IR Service Lead, Consultant Radiologists, Radiographers, and wider MDT to ensure the smooth running of the department, effective patient flow, and continuous service improvement.
Main duties of the job
🌟 Key Responsibilities
- Provide visible clinical leadership and act as a role model for surgical excellence within IR.
- Lead and coordinate day‑to‑day operational activity, ensuring safe staffing, effective skill mix, and high standards of care.
- Oversee patient pathways, including pre‑assessment, intra‑procedural care, and post‑procedure recovery.
- Support the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, safety standards, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Lead on governance activity including incident review, audit, risk management, and compliance with IR(ME)R and other regulatory frameworks.
- Promote a culture of learning, supporting staff development, competency assessment, and education.
- Work collaboratively with the MDT to enhance service efficiency, patient experience, and innovation in interventional practice.
- Contribute to strategic planning for service expansion, new technologies, and workforce development.

Job Purpose:
To be the Nursing/ODP lead for Interventional Radiology and be responsible for the provision of a safe and efficient Nursing service. The service provided by the Nursing/ODP team encompasses Interventional Radiology, CT, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy and other imaging modalities.
The post holder will be the designated budget holder for the Nursing/ODP budgets, supported by the IR Modality Lead, Divisional Accountant and the Directorate Service Line Manager.
Be responsible all aspects of the Nursing/ODP team including HR, recruitment, retention and pastoral care from HCAs to Junior Nursing Sisters/Operating Department Practitioners.
Deputise for the IR Modality Lead.

Essential criteria
- Significant demonstrable experience of Interventional nursing.
- Demonstrable experience of leading a team.
- Demonstrable experience of change management.
Desirable criteria
- Proven evidence of competency by means of a professional portfolio
- Proven knowledge of Budgetary control
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC or HCPC registration
- Degree in health-related subject, or equivalent demonstrable experience
- Teaching qualification or mentoring experience
Desirable criteria
- Second registerable qualification relevant to the clinical area. PIN205-Care-of-patients undergoing-Radiological Interventions. (Kings College) or equivalent
