Job overview
To carry out routine maintenance work and minor repair or assist on Mechanical Services, Systems, Plant and Equipment (Planned and Breakdown) in addition to Mechanical Installation works in accordance with the current Regulations.
The Estates team pride themselves on being able to tackle any job to keep clinical services operational. We do this with continued development through training and mentoring in the varied systems we are responsible for.
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
This role requires experience in a maintenance environment with NVQ2 in Engineering Maintenance or similar.
Successful candidates would take part in additional training to enable them to carry out varying maintenance tasks in all mechanical hospital engineering disciplines.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To be conversant with Electrical and Mechanical systems
- Use relevant tools, plant and equipment in a safe manner and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
- Assist higher skilled grades on all types of maintenance, new works and repairs.
- Carry out semi-skilled duties independently and without routine supervision, and the ability to prioritise workload.
- On completion of relevant training carry out semi-skilled work on other trades (electrical and mechanical).
- Carry out maintenance on a wide range of heating systems, ventilation systems, water systems, boiler plant and observe safe working practices.
- Carry out maintenance on drainage systems (above and below ground) using appropriate pressure washers, breathing apparatus and tools.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 2 in Engineering Maintenance OR demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Good knowledge of engineering maintenance.
Desirable criteria
- NVQ Level 3.
- Electro technical Certification Scheme registration.
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Good written and verbal skills.
- Carry out minor works and repairs unsupervised to the required standard.
- Work as a member of a workshop team.
- Be able to communicate with a wide cross section of people.
- Proven ability to assist craftsmen/Technician.
- PC skills
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience in a maintenance environment.
- Relevant demonstrable experience and understanding of building services.
- Basic understanding of relevant health & safety legislation.
- Base level of theoretical knowledge of Electrical / Mechanical systems.
