Job overview

We are looking for an experienced individual to join us as a Payroll & Benefits Officer, who can bring a wealth of payroll & pension experience to join our team of 21 exceptional payroll & pension colleagues. We are based at Brittany House, Brest Road, Plymouth; in close proximity to the main Derriford Hospital site.

We provide a payroll and pensions service for University Hospitals Plymouth and South Western Ambulance Service, producing around 230,000 payslips per annum.

We are looking for a knowledgeable individual who has a great mind for numbers and excellent analytical skills

The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate in depth knowledge of  payroll and pension services including, NHS terms and conditions and legislation relating to payroll & pensions. 

The successful candidate will be accountable to the Payroll & Benefits Advisor.

 

Main duties of the job

Supporting the Payroll & Pensions Benefits Advisor in the supervision of the Payroll & Pensions Benefits Team including the efficient management of workflow, providing effective administration of services to agreed timetables and dealing with queries from the team and client organisation management

Provide support to the Pensions and Payroll Benefits Advisor implementation of service centre internal policies and procedures

Provide support to client organisation management in all areas of Pensions and payroll benefits for better understanding and service provision

Assisting the Pensions & Payroll Benefits Advisor in implementing changes and suggesting possible improvements to service delivery

To support members of the Pensions & Payroll Benefits Team in making best use of computer applications in the effective and efficient delivery of services

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable payroll experience and some supervisory skills
  • Proven knowledge of Windows based applications
  • Proven knowledge of a computerised payroll system
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of the NHS Electronic Staff Record system

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 5 in relevant subject or equivalent demonstrable experience

Aptitude & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels.

  • Proven knowledge of statutory requirements
