Clinical Facilitator – Perioperative care

Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Perioperative Education Team at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.
The successful candidate will support and deliver clinical education to staff working across all perioperative areas, working in partnership with the Perioperative Educators. The post holder will also contribute to the development of a skilled professional workforce and facilitate a range of education, training and learning opportunities in the clinical and non-clinical environment; ensure a progressive approach to raising standards and quality of patient care in line with national and trust strategy; implement, maintain and support the enhancement of an effective specialist clinical learning environment through role modelling, leadership and excellence in practice.
The successful candidate will also be deliver direct patient care in the perioperative area and they will be required to maintain an active NMC/HCPC registration.

Main duties of the job
· To facilitate and support the clinical skills development and the provision of co-ordinated training and education of all perioperative workforce and students
· To support the management of workforce development initiatives.
· To help supporting development of vision for service development and utilise personal skills in implementing the vision.
· To collect and provide information to ensure training targets and priorities are being met as requested.
· Ensure own clinical practice is up to date and relevant so as to be recognised as a clinical expert within perioperative care.
· Scope of practice includes all clinical areas within Theatre Central.
· To participate in the management of the theatre central education team by way of a collective responsibility approach, which cuts across all other professional boundaries. Such an approach will be based upon a clinical governance model.
· To lead by example, demonstrating effective role modelling to all members of the perioperative team
· To participate in the delivery of education and training for nonregistered staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Support and facilitate the development and delivery of training programmes within the perioperative area
- Evaluate and assess participants in programmes to ensure key learning outcomes and competencies are achieved to ensure the quality of patient care.
- Develop and maintain links with surgical specialities to facilitate communication and effective working relationships.
- Liaise on education and development issues with senior perioperative trust staff.
- To support managing/coordinating the delivery of educational resources.
- Contribute to the relevant administrative, information systems and record keeping requirements.
- Support and collaborate with clinical colleagues, theatre team leaders and other stakeholders in the development of staff.
- Support the delivery of other trust education and training initiatives as required, including the assessment of competence and developmental interventions.
- Develop and support the delivery of corporate mandatory training including manual handling, medical device training, end of life and mental capacity training. Ensuring a standardised approach across all theatres to management and documentation/recordkeeping.
- Develop and support the delivery of medical device training and assessment.

Person specification
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience of working in an NHS unit
- Demonstrable experience of working within the perioperative environment
- Commitment to practice, monitoring and teaching a high standard of clinical care
- Proven knowledge and demonstrable experience of IT
- Strong interpersonal, communications and presentations skills, an outgoing and confident presenter
- Demonstrable experience in training delivery to a diverse range of adults
Desirable criteria
- Previous demonstrable experience in delivering people manual handling/or inanimate load handling training
- Proven knowledge of relevant legislation and national standards relating to manual handling (Manual Handling Operations Regulations: Back exchange framework
- Proven knowledge and understanding of ergonomic principles and risk assessment processes (e.g.: HSE, Management of Health and Safety and Work regulations, Manual Handling Operations Regulations)
- Proven knowledge of clinical risk management
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Practitioner – ODP/RN, with current NMC /HCPC registration
- BSc or equivalent qualification
Desirable criteria
- Meet the qualifications from the National Back Exchange Framework
- Training/education qualification
