Physiotherapy Senior Technical Instructor (Outpatient & Hydrotherapy)

Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a demonstrably experienced, motivated and passionate senior technical instructor to join our highly regarded musculoskeletal outpatient department. This post will support the MSK outpatient department across various sites with the assessment and physiotherapeutic rehabilitation of variety of spinal, peripheral region and respiratory pathologies. The post holders will have the responsibility of running a range of rehabilitation classes as well as providing 1:1 assessment and treatment sessions. This post will provide the successful applicant the opportunity to learn and develop their own skills through team support in addition to mentoring and appraising more junior staff member.
The successful candidates will join this well-established service to support, deliver and develop this service for the local Health Community. Main duties of the job
To perform specific therapeutic (clinical and non-clinical) assessment, treatment and discharge of an identified caseload of patients within the outpatient department in delivering physiotherapeutic treatment programmes for patients with musculoskeletal and respiratory outpatient conditions.
To support the delivery of physiotherapy to patients within the hydrotherapy service.
The clinical caseload will be allocated and indirectly supervised by Physiotherapists.
To undertake all aspects of clinical duties within an agreed protocol within the individual's scope of practice.
To ensure competence is gained and retained in all areas in which you practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical
1 To be accountable for own clinical practice and caseload management. To work without direct supervision but under the direction of qualified staff in the performance of specific tasks for musculoskeletal and respiratory outpatients, as part of their treatment and rehabilitation programmes. Duties may include:
Deliver and modify individual treatment programmes
Manage patients through set treatment protocols and rehabilitation pathways
Develop person specific goals for individuals
Deliver and modify group rehabilitation classes
Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes as required
Conduct basic physiotherapeutic respiratory assessment
Teaching safe use of gym and specialist rehabilitation equipment
Basic respiratory assessment and auscultation.
2. To understand, provide, receive and exchange complex condition related information with patients and relatives, who may have communication difficulties.
3. To be actively involved in the communication of information regarding patient’s conditions and any other useful information to the physiotherapists and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
4. To communicate effectively with patients and carers. Communication skills of persuasion, motivation and explanation will be required. Barriers to communication may include loss of hearing, pain, language and mood.
5. To be aware at all times of the needs of patients during illness or disability and to promote and encourage independence and restoration of function.
6. Be aware of treatment protocols, rehabilitation guidelines and current evidence base for musculoskeletal and respiratory outpatients.
7. Plan and manage own patient caseload across musculoskeletal and respiratory outpatients.
8. To work independently, but under the direction of an HCPC registered physiotherapist to perform procedures and treatment plans for an individual or group of patients, as part of their treatment and rehabilitation programmes.
9. To write treatment notes in a concise, accurate and timely manner in line with departmental standards. These notes do not require qualified staff countersignature.
10. To be involved in the induction, training, development and supervision of students, Technical instructors and Assistants.

Person specification
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Broad range acute hospital / healthcare demonstrable experience including experience in the field of MSK condition assessment and rehabilitation.
- Previous employment / demonstrable experience working within the physiotherapy service at band 2 or above.
- Proven evidence of Continuous Professional Development & values based learning.
- An awareness of current NHS and Health issues.
Desirable criteria
- Previous work in musculoskeletal, Hydrotherapy and/or respiratory outpatient setting.
- Proven knowledge and demonstrable experience of exercise prescription / rehabilitation for a wide variety of clients.
- Demonstrable experience and understanding of goal setting principles.
- Demonstrable experience of Audit.
- Demonstrable experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Foundation degree or equivalent. or Minimum NVQ / diploma in healthcare or equivalent level 3.
Desirable criteria
- Proven attendance of additional professional courses.
- Level 5 diploma for assistant practitioners

- Excellent organisational skills, ability to manage own time, prioritise and plan timed activities.
