Sister Band 6 in Pre –operative Assessment

Are you a Nurse / ODP looking for a change in your career? Maybe a new speciality or looking for that better work life balance? Come work with our lovely compassionate team in the pre-assessment department where you can utilise your clinical knowledge and leadership skills.

We are looking for a Nurse/ ODP with leadership, surgical and anaesthetic experience that can join our team to support the Pre-op assessment of patients prior to their date of surgery. The Pre-op team covers Derriford Hospital providing support and advice for complex and non-complex surgery.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

 To be responsible for organising and leading a team of nursing staff within the pre-operative assessment service. 

 To assist the lead nurse in leading and monitoring the performance and work of the clinical team and the management and teaching of staff.

 To lead by example demonstrating effective role modelling to all members of the team.

 Demonstrating effective and appropriate use of resources, maintaining standards or care, adherent always to both national and local policies and procedures.

 Act as deputy for the lead nurse in all aspects of management.

 Assist the lead nurse in budgetary control and effective use of resources.

Suitable post for an experienced registered practitioner who wishes to contribute to the work of the Pre- Assessment Clinic through the provision of high-quality pre-assessment.

Working within the code of conduct, be responsible for one’s own professional conduct and monitor those aspects within the pre-op team.

 

Responsible for co-ordinating and delivering effective quality nursing care to patients using the service.

 

To contribute to the overall efficiency and development of the pre assessment service.

To demonstrate clinical expertise in the pre-assessment and deputise for the lead Nurse.

Ensure adherence to the pre-operative assessment policy.

Working with the leads of the pre-assessment service to identify and develop clinical changes to working practice and working in different ways to enhance the service provision and patient experience.

To actively influence the overall efficiency and development of the pre-operative assessment service. Working with the lead nurse and matron ATP.

The post holder will have clinical line management supervision responsibilities for team members.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with the NMC or operating department practitioner
  • Leadership course or willingness to undertake
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.

  • Demonstrable experience in Pre assessment
  • Degree or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Health care management / leadership qualification
  • Teaching qualification.

Knowledge & Experience

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • NMC Registered Nurse/Registered practitioner with significant demonstrable experience in surgery and/or anaesthetics and proven knowledge of the patient care pathway
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills written & verbal
  • Effective organisational and management ability with ability to work without supervision
  • 2 years’ experience in pre – operative assessment or previous band 6 experience.
  • Ward/ clinic management and leadership experience.

  • Previous demonstrable experience at band 6
  • ECG & Blood competencies
  • Experience working autonomously, managing own caseload.
