Job overview

Principally, to deliver by van any Medical devices and surgical equipment, specimens, bloods or any items for or on behalf of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.  Additionally, to support any general stores activity associated with the Sterilisation Disinfection unit services. To assist and support the production and processing of surgical equipment medical devices including endoscopes. Working with contaminated equipment in dirty areas as well as a clean room environment as necessary.  

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

 

Main duties of the job

The driving of all vehicles used by University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust as required within the requirements of the Road Traffic Act and within the legal limits of the licence groups held.

Any other duties as may be required for the effective and efficient running of the sterilisation and disinfection unit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Sterilisation Disinfection unit has a wide customer base serving University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, Mount Gould Hospital, Tavistock Hospital, the Peninsula Treatment Centre, and Local G.P. services.  The unit has responsibility for a number of key frontline services including the management of sterilisation and disinfection services including the delivery of surgical instruments and medical devices to the point of use. Collection and delivery of contaminated as well as sterile equipment. Working closely with internal and external service users, supporting theatre activity, clinics, wards and the wider community.

Essential

Essential criteria
  • Proven demonstrable experience and a good understanding of the transportation and storage of surgical sets and medical devices
  • Proven knowledge of COSHH, manual handling, fire awareness, infection control and clinical waste disposal.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, using effective communication skills with colleagues.
Desirable criteria
  • To have proven knowledge of the collection, transport and storage of medical devices and surgical sets and equipment: ISO 13485- 2019 EEC/93/42
  • Demonstrable experience of driving a variety of Commercial Vehicles.
