Imaging Care Assistant – SWITA

Location: South West Imaging and Training Academy (SWITA), with occasional shifts at Derriford Hospital

Join our welcoming imaging team at SWITA, where compassion, teamwork, and learning thrive. As an Imaging Care Assistant, you’ll support patients during ultrasound procedures and help maintain a safe, efficient clinical space.

Your Role: • Chaperone and assist patients during ultrasound appointments • Keep clinical rooms clean and well-equipped • Support audits and equipment checks • Help learners feel confident and supported • Adapt to varied tasks to keep the department running smoothly

Main duties of the job

  To facilitate the throughput of patients attending SWITA to optimise the use of all resources and minimising delays.

·              Inputting, accessing or amending patient and other data on radiology management systems, portering systems, PACS and hospital information systems.

·              Providing information to patients about their procedures.

·              Providing reassurance, emotional and physical support to patients during their treatments.

·              Reporting any faults and undertake QA within their scope of practice.

·              To observe patients and undertake observations when required.

·              Conduct point of care testing when required.

·              Cannulate patients when required.

·              Assisting with the preparation of clinical rooms and equipment.

·              The post holder will have responsibility for the preparation of the training environments, maintaining equipment stock levels and ensuring resources are available for all training programmes.

·              Weekly Health and Safety Checks.

Essential criteria
  • • Demonstrable experience within a similar role in a large clinical setting.
  • • Demonstrable experience of team working.
Desirable criteria
  • • Recent demonstrable healthcare experience, preferably in a hospital ward environment.
  • • Demonstrable experience of leadership qualities.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • GCSEs Grade A-D/3-9 in Maths and English or Functional Skills level 2 in Maths and English, Plus either
  • • NVQ level 3 in Health & Social Care or HCA UHP Level 3 or definitive evidence of working towards – 75% completed (or equivalent transferable qualification) OR, demonstrable equivalent experience (NVQ Level 3 equivalent) as a Healthcare Assistant in a Band 2 clinical role and agree to undertake the HCA UHP L3 course. Willing to undertake a competency based assessment at interview.. • Undertake and complete the Care Certificate training programme offered in-house
