Job overview
Be responsible for the assessment, care, treatment and transportation of patients as a specialist practitioner in pre-hospital care, working predominantly as part of HEMS or ground based critical care or enhanced care service.
Provide effective leadership, development and mentorship to operational personnel, including trainee specialist practitioners in critical care, to support the delivery of a high-quality patient centred service.
To maintain all currencies and perform the required tasks of the Technical Crew Member role as part of the flight crew for the HEMS aircraft.
Main duties of the job
The immediate response to life threatening emergency calls providing specialist interventions within the scope of a Specialist Paramedic in Critical Care as defined by the South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust SWAfT).
Respond to major incidents as part of the SWASfT Major Incident Plan and the Special Operations unit.
Undertake operational flying and ground based duties including shift and night working.

One day practical assessments including a fitness test will be conducted at the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity Base.
Successful candidates may initially commence in a band 6 position until they meet all the requirements of SWASfT SP-CC sign off process including evidence of operational skills log, advanced airway management, surgical skills and extended pharmacology.

Education and qualifications
Essential criteria
- HCPC registered Paramedic or NMC registered nurse
- Evidence of ability to work and assimilate knowledge at post graduate level
- Post-graduate certificate in pre-hospital critical care.
- Evidence of ability to work and assimilate knowledge at post graduate level
Desirable criteria
- HEMS Crewmember
- Masters certificate in critical care
- Non-medical prescribing qualification
Previous experience
Essential criteria
- Must have extensive postqualification experience
- Evidence of career development in the form of clinical courses, educational progression, medical education or specialised skills; in addition to that provided by the employing organisation
Desirable criteria
- Previous HEMS experience

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
