Job overview

Our 0 to 19 Torbay Team Leader will lead and manage a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) team in Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT) to carry out their public health role to meet the needs of the individuals, families or a community.

 

You will have a reduced clinical role within the SCPHN team in which he or she is based. You will provide first line management cover for other team leaders in the SCPHN 0 to 19 management team and will lead agreed areas of service development.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead teams in providing a strength asset based approach to service delivery.
  • To value differences and individuality, showing respect to all when managing a team and working with children young people and their families and carers.
  •  Promote ways in which the service can develop into self-managing teams.
  • Develop effective client centred decision making processes.
  • Proactive role in quality and service improvement.
  • Promote a culture where teams are encouraged to try new ways of working developing services to meet the challenges of working in communities with high level of need and deprivation.
  • The post holder will work closely with the managers from Action for Children to deliver the Torbay 0 to 19 service contract and key performance Indicators.
  •  The post holder will be required to maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • The post holder will work closely with TSDFT Children’s Safeguarding Team.
  • The post holder will manage complaints in line with TSDFT Policy.
  • The post holder will provide annual appraisals, 1 to 1 management supervision pro rata and encourage staff to take up child protection, CAMHS and Restorative supervision.
  • The post holder will sign post staff to wellbeing at work services including coaching. 
  •  The post holder will contribute towards the implementation of the Torbay 0 to 19 Partnership delivery model to ensure a safe and high quality service with processes in place for continuous improvement.

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • Active registration on Part 1 of the NMC register
  • SCPHN qualification
  • Evidence of continued professional development in the last 2 years
  • Mentor qualification recorded on the Trust data base
Desirable criteria
  • Educated at degree level
  • First line management course/qualification
  • Leadership course/qualification
  • V150 nurse prescriber qualification

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to manage conflict
  • Knowledge of the 0 to 19 Torbay contract and Key Performance Indicators
  • IT literacy skill and ability to use electronic record keeping systems
  • Excellent presentation skills with an ability to communicate highly complex information
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to lead by example and to motivate others
  • The ability to manage conflicting deadlines & manage constant change
Desirable criteria
  • 3Teaching and facilitation skills
  • Ability to identify and manage poor performance
  • Knowledge of the Torbay 0 to 19 Partnership development
  • Knowledge of CHIMAT data for Torbay

Specific skills

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience as a practicing SCPHN HV/SN
  • Experience of participation in working groups to develop the SCPHN service
  • Evidence of leadership in complex multi professional setting
  • Participation in clinical audits
  • Mentorship or preceptorship of SCPHN team members
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of leading a project in SCPHN to improve the quality of service delivery
  • Participated in recruitment of staff to the SCPHN role
