Job overview

Set in the heart of the main site at Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust HSDU provides Trustwide Decontamination services across the Hospital and the wider South Devon community.

The HSDU Operations Manager will work within the Planned Care - Surgery Care Group, leading the day to day operations of the department and supporting the HSDU Quality manager in maintaining department accreditation to ISO 13485 along with UKCA Compliance.

  • Responsibility for the day to day management, delivery and development of a number of services across HSDU including, but not limited to ensuring all equipment is maintained and documentation kept up to date.
  • Leading the team to ensure staff competencies and training is kept up to date
  • Supporting project plans and preparation of business cases, ensuring all services deliver a high standard of care which is efficient;
  • Work with the HSDU Quality Manager to ensure delivery of best value services.
  • To have responsibility for workforce to ensure that all staff are appropriately line managed, supervised and supported in accordance with the relevant policies of the employing agencies and best practice
  • As part of this post you would have responsibility as the lead management representative for HSDU.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining the day to day operations of the department whilst working closely with the Quality Manager to ensure compliance in line with IS0 13485. Day to day duties are varied and can cover anything from managing attendance, shift patterns and resolving sensitive staffing issues to supporting and advising clinical users to  ensuring servicing and repairs are carried out in a timely manner. You will support the Quality Manager  with audits and management review meetings.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • ·  Lead the strategic and operational delivery of designated services, ensuring high-quality, safe, compliant and value-for-money decontamination and sterile services aligned with Trust and Care Group objectives.

    Drive service development, modernisation and continuous improvement, including policy development, business cases, project planning, risk management and regulatory compliance (e.g. UKCA, ISO 13485).

    Hold accountability for financial and workforce management, including budget control, cost improvement programmes, establishment control, and efficient workforce planning to meet service demand.
  • ·  
    Provide strong leadership and line management to multidisciplinary teams, promoting staff development, engagement, equality, and a positive, open and learning-focused culture.

  • ·  Ensure effective stakeholder and customer engagement, overseeing service coordination, performance monitoring, incident and complaint management, and maintaining high standards of patient and customer experience.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Relevant Leadership/Management Qualification
  • Educated to degree level/relevant Qualification
  • Relevant management Experience in a decontamination Environment two years and above
  • Decontamination qualification e.g. Technical Certificate/HTM Manager course/Endoscope Decontamination Manager Course
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Member of a Professional Decontamination Body (IDSc, CSC, NPAG) (3)
Desirable criteria
  • Lead/internal audit qualified (13485:2016 preferable)
  • Demonstrated understanding of NHS Frameworks and Systems
  • Demonstrated Experience of Change Management/Delivering projects
