Job overview

An exciting opportunity, due to retirement, has arisen for a Radiology Directorate Manager at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. 

 

You will be responsible for the leadership, management, delivery and development of Diagnostic Imaging Services. This includes planning and co-ordination to ensure cost effective and high-quality health care services are delivered to provide approximately 210,000 procedures per annum.

 

The department is actively engaged in Research and has a progressive attitude to care and service development.

 

You, as the successful candidate, would be expected to manage and lead Diagnostic Imaging Services and implementation of related pathways, delivery, and strategic planning within the context of National and Local frameworks.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the leadership, management, and delivery of Diagnostic Imaging Services and professional leadership of Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners and Radiographer Apprentices.
  • Planning and co-ordinating to ensure cost effective and high-quality health
  • care services are delivered to serve approximately 210,000 procedures per annum.
  • This role has delegated authority for management and delivery of diagnostic waiting times and for provision and evidence of compliance with all regulatory requirements that apply to a Diagnostic Imaging service (e.g. IR(ME)R 2024, IRR 2017, EPA etc).
  • Strategic planning and leadership and creation of business cases for required capital schemes and service changes such as replacement of high-cost imaging equipment across the Diagnostic Imaging Service.

TSDFT Diagnostic Imaging Department carries out in excess of 200,000 Radiological examinations per annum.

 

The Radiology revenue budget is in the region of £13 million per annum that includes: 

o   Pay budget £10 million per annum 

o   Non-pay budget of £3 million per annum 

 

Radiology services are provided across 4 sites:

o   Torbay DGH

o   Newton Abbot – X Ray and Ultrasound 

o   Dawlish, X Ray only 

o   Totnes, X Ray only 

 

The team consists of: 

·         20 WTE Consultant Radiologists 

·         88 WTE Radiographers/Ultrasonographers/Healthcare Scientists and Apprentices across all modalities 

·         5 WTE Radiology Nurses 

·         22 WTE Radiology Support Workers 

·         22 WTE Admin and Clerical Staff

 

Torbay DGH has the following modalities: 

·         4 X Ray rooms 

·         2 Fluoroscopy rooms, one also with X Ray 

·         8 US rooms, 3 general and 5 maternity/women’s health 

·         3 CT Scanners 

·         2 MR Scanners 

·         NM SPECT Scanner 

·         Hybrid Interventional Theatre 

·         2 Cardiac Cath Labs 

·         Various digital mobile X Ray machines and fluoroscopy units 

 

There is a Community Diagnostic Centre, managed by Inhealth, situated in Torquay Town Centre who support TSDFT patients through provision of CT, MR, XR and US services.

Person specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Master’s Level qualification relevant to delivery of a Diagnostic service.
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge in delivery of Diagnostic Imaging services or significant healthcare management experience
  • As Professional Lead for Diagnostic Imaging engage, evaluate, and influence through consultation with relevant bodies and sources of information
