Job overview

The Cancer CNS role is a key worker role. The UGI Cancer CNS addresses patient’s health concerns and works to promote their health and wellbeing. Using their skills and expertise in cancer care, the CNS provides physical and emotional support to their patients coordinates their care services and informs and advises them on clinical and practical issues associated with their diagnosis. This leads to a more positive outcome for patients.

Main duties of the job

The UGI Cancer CNS role is a key worker role and is a core member of the UGI Multidisciplinary team in TSDFT. The UGI Cancer CNS addresses patients’ health concerns and works to promote their health and wellbeing. Using their skills and expertise in UGI care, the CNS provides physical and emotional support to their patients coordinates their care services and informs and advises them on clinical and practical issues associated with their diagnosis. This leads to a more positive experience and outcome for patients.

Working for our organisation

The UGI Cancer CNS team are based within the acute trust near the main oncology department, the planned daycase unit and the Inpatient cancer unit. The UGI Cancer CNS is part of the core service and is part of the cancer support team for the trust.

 

The CNS works collaboratively with others or independently to meet the needs of the patients and their families. It is expected they will also participate in the education and development of other staff members and assist with the development of clinical services and enhanced practice across the Trust.

  • Registered Nurse
  • BSc Hons in relevant subject area
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Minimum 3 years post qualified experience
Desirable criteria
  • Cancer Nursing experience
  • Level 2 communication
  • Advanced Communication skills
  • Evidence and experience of previous CNS role
