Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a proactive, enthusiastic and well-respected team in Torbay Hospital, for a Band 5 rotation position acting as a band 6.

As a sister/Charge Nurse you will be supported to provide day to day leadership to the nursing team facilitating the efficient working of the multidisciplinary team to assess care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care. In this role you will be co-ordinating the running of the Intensive Care Unit whilst working collaboratively to ensure a good patient journey and supporting and developing team members. During the rotation, you will complete required documentation and be in the process of completing the step 4 CC3n competencies.

Main duties of the job

  • The Main duties of the Sister/Charge nurse are to co-ordinate the shift whilst maintaining a calm and professional attitude.
  • You will be responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of patient care. You will be working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that consistently high standards and quality of care for patients are maintained and that the patient’s needs are met.
  • To provide clinical advice, training, education and support to patients, relatives and other professional colleagues.
  • To promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, their carer’s, visitors and staff and comply with the Trust and relevant network policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols, values and expected behaviours.

The Intensive Care Unit is a fourteen bedded unit which admits level 2 and 3 patients requiring complex care needs moving on to meet their rehabilitation needs both within the unit and on their continuing journey home. 

The multidisciplinary team work collaboratively to ensure the patients needs are met compassionately and to a high standard with the goal of helping patients achieve their optimum level of health post critical illness or a peaceful death.
