Job overview

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Gastroenterology department at Torbay Hospital, working alongside a dynamic and enthusiastic clinical team.

Applicants will be offered a 12-month post at registrar level in Gastroenterology, with a commitment to the GIM registrar on-call rota. 

 

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be expected to work at the level of a newly appointed Gastroenterology registrar within our team. This will include

  • regular ward rounds and review of patients with Gastroenterological conditions
  • supporting the resident doctors and other members of the MDT with care of inpatients 
  • undertaking outpatient clinics (with direct or indirect supervision) 
  • supporting our daycase unit in the management of outpatients
  • undertaking paracentesis and support the training of other resident doctors 
  • attending MDT's and other appropriate clinical meetings 
  • supporting medical students who attend placement within Gastroenterology
  • There is the opportunity to engage in endoscopy training depending on the candidates wishes and background experience 
  • To continue to develop their training in terms of GMC good medical practice - QIP, research etc
  • To undertake GIM medical-on calls at the level of medical SpR as described 

You will be expected to abide by the code set out in the GMC “Good Medical Practice” and to continue to improve on the generic competencies outlined in the Foundation Programme.

Working for our organisation

The Gastroenterology department consists of:

9 Consultant Gastroenterologists 

3 Specialist registrars 

Minimum staffing level of 3 other doctors composed of foundation trainees, IMT’s and trust doctors.

Wide range of allied health professionals including specialist nurses, dieticians and clinical endoscopists. 

 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate would be working at IMT3/ST4-equivalent level within the Gastroenterology department. The role includes participation in the 1:12 General (Internal) Medicine registrar rota.

 · To support the wards within GIM and Gastroenterology

· To support our outpatient and Unit (Hutchings) with Gastroenterology practical procedures and supervision of junior team drains

· To undertake outpatient Gastroenterology clinics

· To have opportunity to train in diagnostic endoscopy or continue to perform endoscopic procedures (depending on applicants prior experience and career aspirations)
