Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust is offering the opportunity to combine a rewarding job in haematology with an unrivalled lifestyle in the heart of one of the most beautiful areas of the country.

 

We are looking to expand our department and recruit a full time 10PA haematology consultant with a 1 in 5 on call rota with a specialist interest that compliments the existing haematology consultant team.

 

The successful applicant will be joining a team of 6 consultants and we have recently expanded to having 2 registrars on the Peninsular Haematology Rotation

Dr Barry Jackson- Clinical lead and lead for haemophilia, transfusion and MPN

Dr Heather Eve- Lead for myeloma

Dr Nwe Oo- lead for laboratory, thrombosis and haemoglobinopathy

Dr Tom Skinner- MDT and clinical governance lead

Dr Deborah Turner- Lead for lymphoma

Dr Rui Zhao- Lead for acute leukaemia and MDS

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an individual to join our team at Torbay as a substantive haematology consultant.

You will be expected to join the senior medical team in running outpatient clinics, supporting patients having day case and inpatient cancer treatment by providing high quality consultant delivered care including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff.

 

You will be proactive in ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making.

 

· Take ownership for and deliver your own workload

· Contribute to the medical leadership, management and innovation within haematology services.

· Offer support and training to all non-consultant grade doctors within the unit.

· Promote inter-disciplinary working in the department and across the hospital.

 · To ensure that current standards and evidence-based practice are applied.

· Participate in clinical audit program, including both departmental and multidisciplinary audit.

 · Contribute to research and innovative practice within haematology.

Systemic Anti-Cancer treatment and Radiotherapy is administered in all these sites.

Person specification

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • • Full registration with the GMC with licence to practice (or to be eligible for registration within six months of interview.)
  • • MRCP and FRCPath (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Able and experienced to run a SACT service
  • • Able to offer expert clinical opinion
  • • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • • Excellent communication skills
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and post graduates
  • • A special interest to compliment other consultant colleagues e.g • Transfusion/Laboratory
