Main duties of the job
We are seeking an enthusiastic clinical oncologist to join our team at Torbay, with a particular interest in Urology & Lymphoma, we will also consider an alternative site to go alongside Urology.
We will work with you to create a job plan that suits your interests, expertise and ambitions. We encourage a flexible approach to job planning, for those who wish to work their week in a different way to suit their work-life balance.
You would be expected and encouraged to work with the existing oncologists to contribute to research, clinical governance, audit, training of junior staff and medical students and undertake CME/CPD according to the requirements of your College.
Working for our organisation
The Trust is in the process of significant investment into oncology services, with service redesign to support a robust and resilient service moving forwards. The Oncology Department at Torbay Hospital is concentrated on one site and boasts, a chemotherapy day unit (with a sea view), a suite of dedicated oncology outpatient rooms and 18 bed oncology/haematology ward.
You will be joining a committed and friendly team of 9 Clinical and 3 Medical Oncologists and 1 Specialist Doctor supported by 3 Specialty Doctors, 2 Clinical Fellow posts and 3 registrars from the Peninsula Postgraduate School of Medicine. Combined with a team of experienced cancer nurse specialists and radiographers with independent clinics. We also have a successful cancer clinical trials team with a varied commercial and non-commercial portfolio.

Applicants are required to be on the GMCs Specialist Register with a licence to practice or within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full registration with the GMC with licence to practice
- Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists or equivalent qualifications
- Completion of higher specialist training in Clinical Oncology
- Entry onto the Specialist Register (or entry expected within 6 months of interview date)
Desirable criteria
- Higher Degree
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Able and experienced to run a radiotherapy and SACT service for a major tumour site (for example Breast) and one other tumour site
- Able to offer expert clinical opinion
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Good communication skills
Desirable criteria
- Able to contribute to the development of radiotherapy and/or SACT services, including immunotherapy, at Torbay
- Involvement in cancer clinical trials
Teaching/Research Experience
Essential criteria
- Desire to teach junior medical staff and professions allied to medicine and to participate in trust teaching programme
- Interested in teaching Medical School student
- Experience of audit
Desirable criteria
- Experience of research and ability to apply research outcomes to clinical practice
- Evidence of teaching experience at undergraduate and post graduate levels and ability to teach clinical skills
- • Publication in peer reviewed journals
Management Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to organise a practice in an efficient manner with due attention to timeliness and dealing with administration and enquiries
Desirable criteria
- Management experience
- Interested in taking on a management role
- Governance experience
