Job overview

We are looking for a motivated individual to provide high quality , nursing care and support to patients and their families with a variety of respiratory conditions. You will provide day to day leadership to junior nurses,  be a role model and lead the way,  fostering and developing a learning environment where feedback is welcomed and valued 

Provide specialist clinical advice regarding the service and treatment of patients. Work as part of the team demonstrating effective communication and working collaboratively with colleagues inside and out of the department

Delegate roles and responsibilities, keeping up to date with organisational developments. Adhere to trust protocols and maintain standards

Lead Board/Safer meetings to ensure patient care is delivered seamlessly and that discharge planning is proactive, safe and promotes maximum independence for patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Working on Midgley ward, you will co ordinate the shift, liase with the MDT ensuring patient flow and discharge is effectively managed
  • Allocation of safe staffing and appropriate skill mix to meet patient acuity, managing staff sickness, escalating shifts where required
  • Communicate and liaise with patients, their families, and the wider MDT to deliver quality care that is individualised to our complex patient group
  • Problem solve and de escalate situations, supporting junior colleagues
  • Accurately assess unwell patients escalating care, to NIV/CPAP/Optiflow, appropriately following NIV pathway

Midgley ward is a 26 bedded ward that specialises in Respiratory and General Medicine.

Midgley ward can be extremely busy with a high turn over of patients with complex chronic respiratory and acute medical conditions. The ward environment is dynamic and forward thinking. You will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of extended clinical and management skills as we move closer to realising our aspiration for a Respiratory support unit, enabling improved management of acutely ill patients on NIV and stepdown from ITU.

Midgley is a progressive and inclusive ward which works effectively within the Multidisciplinary model
