Job overview
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated registered pharmacy technician to join our ward based clinical team. We welcome applications from experienced and newly registered pharmacy technicians who have the qualities to fulfil the requirements of the role.
We are looking for somebody with a friendly demeanour, and excellent interpersonal skills which enable you to work well with other healthcare professionals. Confidence to use your own initiative is required, as well as; problem solving skills and the enjoyment from working as part of a team.
Main duties of the job
As part of the Medicines Optimisation team; provide an effective, integrated ward-based pharmacy service, as part of the Cancer Services team. Undertake medicines reconciliation reviews on all newly admitted inpatients, liaise with ward teams to ensure patient safety, manage an effective system to ensure efficient and economic provision of stock, support the dispensary and other areas of pharmacy to ensure timely provision of medicines for patients, undertake mandatory audits and data collection, assist in the training and development of pre-registration technicians and other pharmacy staff.
As an Accredited Checking Technician; participate in the rota for final accuracy check of dispensed items for both inpatients and outpatients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Recognised pharmacy technician qualification (e.g. BTEC National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences, NVQ Level 3 –
Pharmacy Services). - Detailed evidence of appropriate continuing professional development (CPD).
- Have an interest in oncology and haematology.
- Able to cope under pressure and in a busy / stressful environment
- Exposure to potentially infective conditions, e.g. diarrhoea and vomiting.
- Dealing with constant interruptions from other healthcare professionals and patients.
- Proficient in the use of chemocare, infoflex, IHCS and the trusts electronic prescribing systems, and be able to assist colleagues who need assistance.

Essential criteria
- Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technician (or equivalent), or, NVQ Level 3/BTEC in Pharmacy Services
- Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable criteria
- Accredited as Medicines Optimisation (formally Medicines Management) Technician
- Accredited Checking Technician
- Hospital pharmacy experience

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
