Job overview
As deputy to the Radiology Directorate Manager, this role will manage the Operations and Quality Managers and Modality Team Leads in delivering the diagnostic Imaging service, demonstrating strong leadership skills to achieve excellence in our patient care and pathways. You will be responsible for operational and strategic management of Radiology Services (alongside Ops Manager) and the management and development of Clinical and Professional aspects or Diagnostic Imaging. You will have professional responsibility for non-medical, clinical workforce ensuring that all staff are appropriately managed, supervised, trained and supported in accordance relevant policies of the employing agencies and professional codes of practice
You will be a role model for the team, demonstrating exemplary practice:
- Line Manager for Radiology Clinical Team Leads
- Responsible for:
- Radiology Quality Management and is line manager to Radiology Quality Manager
- Education and role development of Radiology AHPs and associated imaging professional (e.g. HCS, midwife sonographers), line managing Education Lead(s)/Practice Educators
- Responsible for management of governance in Radiology, taking lead on matters relating to incidents and complaints
- Will demonstrate excellent clinical radiographic skills in their area of clinical expertise and will continue to practice for an agreed portion of their job planned activity
Main duties of the job
- Deputy to the Radiology Directorate Manager, working alongside the Operational Manager supporting the operational and strategic management in Radiology
- Works with the Directorate Manager, Clinical Service Lead, Operations Manager and team leads developing radiology imaging service plans, addressing strategic and operational issues, identifying risks and implementing change
- Works with the Directorate Manager and Operational Manager in management of the radiology budget while developing radiology services enhancing patient experience and delivering value for money
- Carries out clinical duties within scope of practice, showing high levels of skill and setting an exemplary example to all staff
- Provides Professional leadership for the AHP team and associated Imaging Professionals, leading professional development and education
- Leads on Quality Management and Governance, supported by the Quality Manager
- Lead on staff education supported by education lead(s)
- Consistently and fairly applies trust HR policy
- Creates a climate openness & transparency promoting equal opportunities for all
- Promotes and supports development of Radiographer roles and skills mix
- Communicate the trust’s objectives and plans to all staff within the designated areas of responsibility
- Supports Operations Manager with appropriate rostering and deployment of clinical staff
Working for our organisation
- TSDFT Diagnostic Imaging Department carries out in excess of 200,000 Radiological examinations per annum
- Radiology services are provided across 4 sites: Torbay DGH and 3 community sites:
- Newton Abbot – X Ray and Ultrasound
- Dawlish and Totnes – Both X Ray only
- The Radiology revenue budget is in excess of £10 million per annum that includes;
- Pay budget in excess of £8 million per annum
- Non-pay budget of £2 million per annum
- The team consists of;
- 20 WTE Consultant Radiologists
- 88 WTE Radiographers/Sonographers/Healthcare Scientists and Apprentices across all modalities
- 5 WTE Radiology Nurses
- 22 WTE Radiology Support Workers
- 22 WTE Admin and Clerical Staff
- Torbay DGH has the following modalities;
- 4 X Ray rooms o 2 Fluoroscopy rooms, one also with X Ray
- 8 US rooms, 3 general and 5 maternity/women’s health
- 3 CT Scanners
- 2 MR Scanners o NM SPECT Scanner o Hybrid Interventional Theatre
- 2 Cardiac Cath Labs
- Various digital mobile X Ray machines and fluoroscopy units
