This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to join the dynamic Turner Ward and Ricky Grant Day unit teams. 

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced nurse who has a keen interest in developing their skills in Oncology and Haematology within the ward and/or day unit settings. This may include co-ordinating and supervising a shift, communicating effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, evidence-led care to patients.

 

You will act as role model and mentor promoting excellence through practice and taking responsibility for supervision and development of all staff including student nurses and support workers, providing support, advice and training. We support ongoing training and development both in house and with external courses/ programmes.

 

Note: Previous experience in the delivery of SACT is not essential as there will be the opportunity to undertake the necessary training through the Aspiring Cancer Career and Education Development Programme (Accend). 

Main duties of the job

  •        To work on Turner ward and/or Ricky Grant Day Unit as SACT Nurse within a team responsible for the care of patients admitted as a result of their cancer diagnosis or side effects of their treatment and for the administration of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) in the nurse led Day Unit setting
  •        To oversee the ward/unit team responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of patient care. You will be working closely with other professional colleagues to ensure that consistently high standards and quality of care for patients are maintained and that the patient’s needs are met
  •        To improve practice by continuous professional development. You will gain a broad spectrum of clinical proficiency to deliver SACT
  •        To conform to COSHH and Health and Safety regulations whilst dealing with cytotoxic drugs ensuring a safe working environment
  •        To provide clinical advice, training, education and support to patients, relatives and other professional colleagues
  •        To promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, their carer’s, visitors and staff and to comply with the Trust and relevant network policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols, values and expected behaviours
