This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Health or Social Care professional to join our NHS Trust as a Lead in the Safeguarding Adult / Mental Capacity Act Team.

The post provides the opportunity to work with a variety of health and social care colleagues on all aspects of Adult Safeguarding and Mental Capacity Act legal duties.  Working closely with our Integrated Service Units, you will also maintain and develop systems and processes to safeguard patients from abuse and improper treatment and support our workforce education programme.

This will include taking a lead role in ensuring there are consistent and effective operational responses to safeguarding adult concerns within TSDFT regulatory settings and ensuring all (regulated) clinical staff understand their roles in keeping people safe from abuse or neglect and responding to adult abuse concerns.

If you enjoy working in a varied and busy environment and have a passion for upholding human rights principles, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

  • You will have a central and highly visible role in embedding systems and processes in TSDFT regulatory services to ensure adults are protected from abuse and neglect.
  • This will include taking a lead role in ensuring there are consistent and effective operational responses to safeguarding adult concerns within TSDFT regulatory settings and ensuring all (regulated) clinical staff understand their roles in keeping people safe from abuse or neglect and responding to adult abuse concerns.
  • You will take a lead role in ensuring existing legal frameworks of the Mental Capacity Act are embedded into clinical practice at all levels of regulated services and that staff are clear on how to implement the requirements of Mental Capacity Act legislation and code of practice guidance.  This includes deprivation of liberty and liberty protection safeguards.
  • Using intelligent monitoring, the post holder will collect and analyse information about the effectiveness of systems and processes and will implement action plans in response as needed.
  • A key component will be to maintain strong partnership relationships to support effective responses to safeguarding and mental capacity operational activity.

Working for our organisation

The Safeguarding Adult Mental Capacity Act Team is an experienced multi-disciplinary team consisting of Social Workers, Nurses, Allied Professionals and Administrators.

Together we are passionate about protecting people from abuse, neglect and human rights breaches.  We all have an important role to play and work hard in achieving our shared aims and goals.

We work closely with patients, colleagues within TSDFT, as well as working in collaboration with our Partners and Stakeholders across Torbay and Devon to fundamentally protect people's human rights.

Why work with us -  Torbay Hospital  provides acute care for the local community and has several community hospitals, and is a hot-spot for those who are considering living by the sea or within half an hour of Dartmoor National Park and an hour to Exmoor National Park. Meanwhile, Plymouth and Exeter are also both within a short drive to enjoy the culture, maritime history and shopping experiences.
