An exciting opportunity has arisen in Torbay Drug and Alcohol Service, for the recruitment of a Recovery Coordinator. You will be part of Torbay Recovery Initiatives which is a partnership with Torbay and South Devon NHS trust, Devon Partnership Trust, Waythrough, and Jatis.
Our service is part of the wider multi complex needs alliance in Torbay called Growth In Action. We believe that where every you are on your journey, Growth In Action aims to offer hope and choice & connect you to "the right person, in the right place, when the time is right for you".
We work in with a Trauma Informed Approach and utilise motivational interviewing skills.
Main duties of the job
The principal purpose of the job is to improve the health & wellbeing of people with a range of substance misuse difficulties. This will be achieved by:
• Active involvement in the delivery of high quality, safe and compassionate Drug and Alcohol Services as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Implementing specific review of care packages to individuals and groups within standard protocols, integrated care pathways and recovery principles.
• Providing evidence-based advice and consultancy to patients, family members/Carers within standard protocols for care co-ordination/ care management.
• Organising and managing a defined caseload under guidance and work as lone workers where appropriate. The post holder will be accountable for their own actions within the delivery of this care.
• Seeking advice and expertise of a registered practitioner when required through the use of regular managerial and clinical supervision in accordance with Trust policy.

The TRI service is part of the Growth In Action (GIA) alliance which includes our local Homelessness Hostel delivered by Torbay Council and Torbay Domestic Abuse Service (TDAS) which is delivered by Sanctuary.
Therefore, knowledge in these areas would also be beneficial. GIA employs a trauma-informed approach for those who access our services but also assumes that all of us have potentially experienced trauma and therefore key principles should be applied throughout our daily work. We are committed to being a Trauma Informed Service had have regular training and best practice groups.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To hold a caseload and provide support and treatment for drug and alcohol users in the Torbay Locality.
- To participate in clinical meetings and to work collaboratively with other colleagues in the multi-disciplinary team.
- To provide evidence-based advice, guidance and consultancy to patients, family members, carers and professionals within standard protocols.
- To be responsible for the delivery of specific care packages including assessing, planning, intervention and evaluation within standard protocols and accountable for their own actions within the delivery of this care.
- To be able to implement a range of mental health and substance misuse assessments and interventions consistent with a Recovery approach where the needs of the individual and their Carers are held as central and their involvement is proactively encouraged.
- To ensure that appropriate action is taken for safeguarding adults and children under the guidance of a Senior Mental Health Practitioner.
- To actively embrace change, respond positively to new priorities and challenges and look for opportunities for service development and improvement.
- To contribute to service development activities as required by line management in order to improve the quality of care offered by the team.
- To ensure the confidentiality of all client information, in order to comply with the Trust and service policies and current legislation.
- Under the direction of and upon successful completion of any required additional training, can assist (in accordance with NMC delegated authority guidance) a registered nurse to ensure that recommended physical health and other monitoring requirements of mental health medication (in line with relevant trust policy, standards and guidelines) is completed.

Essential criteria
- Willingness to work towards obtaining drug and alcohol qualifications
Desirable criteria
- Drug and/ or alcohol specific qualifications
- Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care or qualification to Diploma level or equivalent
Knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of a range of Mental Health and Substance misuse presentations and medications
- An understanding of physical health problems which can impact on a person’s mental health and monitoring of the same
- Knowledge of safeguarding principles and appropriate action to take
- Basic IT skills
- Understanding of Recovery principles in Mental Health and substance misuse
Desirable criteria
- An understanding of Care Coordination/ Management process

- Previous experience working in a range of different mental health or substance misuse care settings

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
