Job overview

Our Transport Courier (TTA) will be responsible for collecting and delivering a variety of items to various locations in South Devon.

This position is predominantly as a pharmacy delivery driver.

Our TTA delivery driver will collect pharmacy items and then deliver in a timely way to home addresses and surgeries across the Trust area in an appropriate and timely manner.

Main duties of the job

  • As a courier to transport pharmacy items, goods, equipment, correspondence and stores, together with urine, blood and other bodily fluids, tissue samples and between hospitals, health centres, clinics, GP surgeries and patient home addresses across the Trust area.
  • Because of the nature of the specimens/confidential paperwork carried, and the area covered, it is essential that the courier drivers have to run to very tight schedules.  The job holder must have a high awareness of the department’s assets, which may be used in carrying out the daily duties.
  • Participate in a rota system covering any shift required by the Management.
  • TTA delivery driver collect pharmacy items and then deliver in a timely way to home addresses and surgeries across the Trust area in an appropriate and timely manner.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • All post, packages, x-rays, patient notes, prescription boxes, medical electronic equipment.
  • HSDU – collect and deliver all sterile and unclean medical instruments, family planning, dental and theatre operating packs.
  • BLOOD – collect and deliver blood as required and keep safe.  In the event of a spillage follow Trusts procedures and use the blood spillage kit provided.
  • PHARMACY – Locked pharmacy boxes, prescription drugs for patients, various packs of drugs, controlled drugs (CD’s) which have to be signed for by registered nurse, patient or nominated person, monthly emergency drug boxes, saline solution, sterile water and liquid food for patients.
  • PATHOLOGY – collect and deliver blood, urine, swab and stool samples.  This may include hazardous samples (suspect Hepatitis, HIV etc) keep in metal box provided, away from all other articles in vehicle.
  • Delivery of all pathology stores to outlying areas
  • Collection & delivery of Cytoxic drugs in special containers (signed for at both pick-up and drop off points).
  • Collection & storage of confidential waste.
  • Deliver boxes of blank prescription pads.
