Job overview

Ainslie ward at Torbay Hospital are recruiting for full and part-time Senior Healthcare Support Workers to join our fast paced Trauma and Orthopaedic ward to provide the highest achievable standard of  care following the patients assessment of needs.

We are a 26 bedded trauma ward that provides you with the opportunity to work alongside our Multi-disciplinary teams to provide the highest standard of care to patients who often require surgery due to a wide range of injuries. You will work effectively and without direct supervision alongside Registered Nurses/Practitioners within the ward as required on a daily basis. 

In your role, you will be supported with your development needs both from in house training and also from external courses whilst having regular supervision and appraisal to ensure you are helped to reach your maximum potential and development.

This is a fixed term contract for 1 year. 

Main duties of the job

  • Providing, managing and coordinating your allocated patients care needs
  • Liaising and communicating  with your patients NOK, family, Carer
  • Supporting, mentoring students
  • Administering  oral/IV medications
  • Admitting, carrying out assessments and discharges
  • Wound care
  • Observations
  • Communicating efficiently and professionally  both verbal and written,  updating,  involving your surrounding team with changes occurring throughout your shift
  • Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team

Working for our organisation

The team is made up of a  Senior Sister, Junior Sister's, Trauma Co-Ordinator's, Band 5 Registered Nurses, Assistant Practitioners and  Health Care Assistant's.

We are also proud to have ward based Hotel Services and two Housekeepers. All of who work well together providing the team spirit we enjoy and feel safe with.

  • NMC Registered (Level 1) Adult Nursing.
Desirable criteria
  • Interest in or experience of specialist surgery: Trauma and Orthopaedics

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of meeting revalidation, specialist surgical skills and mandatory training requirements
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and how they are key in-patient safety and assessing risk
Desirable criteria
  • • Awareness of the NHS plan and current initiatives that affect us particularly in the south west peninsular
