Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist

NHS AfC: Band 8b

Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic clinical psychologist to work in the Bridport and Weymouth areas.  You will be responsible for the direct delivery of interventions to older adults in local Community Mental Health teams. You will be skilled in assessment, formulation, and in the delivery of appropriate highly specialised programmes of care. You will plan and prioritise your own patient workload whilst coordinating with existing teams and other agencies.

You will offer clinical and managerial supervision to other members of the older people’s psychology team as well as oversee the placement of a trainee clinical psychologist.  You will support staff in the MDT by offering complex case discussions, reflective practice and guidance as required.

The role is diverse and allows opportunities to develop your own individual therapy skills, work on service development, continue with your professional development, and work with a range of skilled professionals who are all passionate about working with older people.

Main duties of the job

Clinical work covers a whole range of different problems with which clients may present, as well as skilled and often complex assessments.    You will provide highly specialised advice to clients, their families and carers where appropriate, and to staff in community teams and other organisations involved in care.  You will provide specialist psychological assessments of clients based upon the appropriate use and interpretation of data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day line management of, and clinically supervise psychologists working in the older people’s psychology service.  You will provide clinical supervision and mentorship to other professionals.
