Job overview

We have  an opportunity for a Bank Speech and Language Therapist to work within the Dorset County Hospital Speech and Language Therapy Team (Adult Service) providing a  highly specialist flexible service to adults with voice disorders, dysphagia and potentially laryngectomy in an outpatient capacity. 

The out-patient voice therapy service is located at Charlton Down Therapy Centre just outside Dorchester.

Main duties of the job

To work as a member of the Dorset County Hospital Speech and Language Therapy Team (Adult Service)  providing assessment, treatment and management to patients with ENT or Head and Neck Cancer related communication, voice and/or swallowing problems including potentially some management of laryngectomy if needed.

There would also be an opportunity to supervise and develop junior members of the team within the ENT service.

Person specification

Education, Qualifications, & Training

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Registered as a Speech and Language Therapist with the Health Professions Council.
  • Highly Specialist skills as a Dysphagia Practitioner
  • SVR Competencies Completed.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of clinical experience leading to capability to practice at a highly specialist level in the field of Head and Neck Cancer and Dysphonia.
  • Experience of working in outpatient clinics (both SLT led and consultant led)

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Up-to-date and advanced knowledge of head and neck cancer treatments approaches.
  • The ability to independently assess, diagnose and treat patients with complex disorders and/or presentations, to a highly specialist level and to lead in the provision of specialist speech and language therapy care to these patients
  • Full driving licence and access to own car.
