Job overview

We are looking for registered nurse with an interest in women's health and cancer to join our team. as a clinical nurse specialist. Applicants will have at least 2 years post registration experience working in an acute setting. Experience in either women's health or cancer speciality is desirable but not essential as training will be given.  A keen interest in the specialty is more important.

The role of the clinical nurse specialist is to provide an expert service for patients in West Dorset diagnosed with gynaecological cancers. The post holder will be based at Dorset County Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Provision of a high-quality nursing service to patients with gynaecological cancers, providing support and continuity from the point of diagnosis/referral, acting as a key worker where appropriate and also a core member of the multidisciplinary team.

Providing psychological support to patients and their families/ carers whilst liaising and referring as necessary to appropriate health care professionals within the hospital and community.

Delivery of personalised care with holistic  assessment of needs and planning and implementation of patient centred care at key points in the cancer journey.

The provision of education, information, support and advice to other health care professionals

Education, qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse.
  • Evidence of education to degree level in health-related subject.
  • Evidence of recent CPD.
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised qualification in cancer care or gynaecology nursing.
  • Communication skills training or willingness to attend.
  • Teaching qualification.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant and recent post registration experience in registered nursing role
  • Significant and recent experience in related speciality at previous grade
  • Understanding of professional nursing issues.
  • Evidence of special interest in gynae-oncology nursing.
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its requirements.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of clinical audit.
