We are looking for an enthusiastic, efficient and motivated Cardiac Physiologist to join our team in our busy cardiology department at Band 5 level. This post will include further training for progression to band 6 and band 7 level once accreditation is achieved with either The British Society of Echocardiography or The British Heart Rhythm Society.
Candidates must have, or be in year 3 of the BSc Healthcare Science (Cardiac Physiology) Degree, or equivalent.

Main duties of the job
As a newly qualified Cardiac Physiologist you will participate in the delivery of a specialist clinical service and deliver a high standard of care to all patients. You will rotate through sections of the cardiac department to build and maintain a body of specialist knowledge and apply this to practice. You will be given the opportunity to continue to build upon theoretical and practical training utilising the knowledge and experience of our highly specialist cardiac physiologist in a range of diagnostic and therapeutic investigations. You will play an essential role in contributing to the development and delivery of education and training within the department.
The main duties:
To provide a clinical technical service that includes routine ECG, exercise tolerance testing (both doctor and physiologist supervised), 24 hour ambulatory monitoring, assist in the Cardiac Cath Lab during diagnostic angiography and interventional procedures, assist and train in cardiac device implant and follow up clinics and train towards basic scanning skills in echocardiography to accreditation levels. Procedures will be carried out on a range of patients where there maybe exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances. Exposure to patient body odours, body fluids and secretions may occur frequently. You will be expected to analyse and assess test results against acceptability criteria and work within agreed professional policies and protocols.

Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- BSc Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or recognised equivalent (HTECH MPPM)
Desirable criteria
- RCCP or recognised equivalent registration
- BLS/ILS Certificate
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate experience as a student Cardiac Physiologist or qualified Cardiac Physiologist
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of contributing towards service development and education
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Evidence of work in non-invasive diagnostic service (fitting Holters, BP Monitors, performing 12-lead ECGs etc.)
- Keyboard and IT skills.
- Evidence of effective communication skills both written and oral.
- Evidence of ability to work as part of a team
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of ability to assist with diagnostic cardiac catheterisation and PCI including performing pressure wire studies.
- Evidence of ability in performing ETTs.
- Evidence of ability to respond quickly to changing priorities and ability to work to meet deadlines
- Evidence of ability to make decisions within defined boundaries
- Evidence of ability to work without within broad procedural, guidelines
- Awareness of wider cardiology procedures such as Echocardiograms and Device implant/follow-up, with demonstratable knowledge
