Job overview
Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has 2 Cardiac Catheter Labs and an 7 bedded Cardiac day ward/recovery. We have the opportunity to recruit into our existing team. The role available would be suitable for the position of healthcare support worker - band 2 with an opportunity to work towards band 3 uplift with training and development.
We undertake a number of cardiology procedures such as PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention), Primary PCI, Diagnostic Angiography, ICD, Bi-Ventricular and Pacemaker Implants and Transoesophageal Echo’s.
Our working day is currently Monday-Friday 8am-6pm. We provide a Primary PCI service currently from 9am-5pm. Competency and training within the specialist environment will be delivered in house. If new to healthcare then enrolment on to the Care Certificate is required.
Team spirit, enthusiasm and the drive to deliver patient centred care are all essential requirements of prospective post holders.
Main duties of the job
To assist the registered healthcare professionals in the day to day effective and efficient running of the Cardiac Catheter Lab.
To ensure that the environment is safe for patient and staff and compliant with Infection control procedures. This also includes stock management.
To assist in providing safe and effective patient care for patient undergoing Cardiac procedures. this may involve transfer of patients to and from the Cardiac Catheter Lab and escalating concerns to a senior staff
Ensure that the patients needs are met, including continence and nutritional requirements.

Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Evidence of Secondary Education to include an understanding of literacy and numeracy.
Desirable criteria
- Level 2 healthcare certificate (or willing to complete) or equivalent relevant experience
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- • Experience of working in a team under appropriate supervision
- • Able to demonstrate an understanding of principles of effective communication and care giving
- • Understanding of basic hygiene skills
- • Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to a registered care professional
- • Able to listen to advice from colleagues, agree a plan of action and implement
- • Understanding of the importance of the promotion of health and well-being
