Job overview

 Band 6 Renal Dietitian 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Renal  Dietitian to come and work with the supportive renal dietetic service and the wider dietetic team. 

You will be a key member of the Dorset County Hospital Renal Multidisciplinary team. The service  covers Dorset County Hospital inpatients, the clinics and dialysis units managed by  South Somerset and the  Dorset Renal Service.

This is a permanent position 37.5 hours per week,  Monday-Friday although part time or job share would be considered. 

Main duties of the job

You will work with a fantastic and forward thinking team of Renal  Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Administrators, Podiatrists and  Healthcare Assistants. You will be based with them at  Dorset County Hospital in the beautiful County town of Dorchester although will outreach to other local hospitals.  You will also be part of the Trust’s Dietetic department, benefitting from easy access to and peer support from Dietitians working across a range of specialities. 

  • As an HCPC registered Dietitian, provide expert renal service to the MDT.
  • Engage with, advise and train other healthcare professionals involved in the care of renal patients.
  • Influencing on developing renal dietetic services through Quality Improvement projects.
  • Work as a member of the Dietetic Department, in the promotion of a high-quality patient-focused service and contributing to service development and cover.

education, qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • • Degree/Post graduate qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • • Current Registered Dietitian status with HCPC
  • • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • • NHS Experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Clinical Supervisory Skills Course
  • • Counselling skills/training course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Minimum 18months – 2 years post registration experience
  • • Extensive experience working as part a multi-professional team
  • • Wide-ranging clinical and dietetic experience, including some in acute nutritional support, renal, diabetes and gastroenterology
  • • Experience of Student Training
  • • Understanding of clinical governance as it relates to dietetic practice

  • • Advanced Reasoning

  • • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work alone and as part of the multidisciplinary team
  • • Sound clinical knowledge relating to oral and enteral nutrition support
  • • Basic knowledge relating to parenteral nutrition support
  • • Evidence of excellent time management skills, flexibility, adaptability to prioritise work, use initiative to complete projects and meet deadlines
  • • Evidence of an ability to use initiative but recognise limits
  • • Car Driver
  • • Evidence of ability to act as a mentor to student dietitians and clinically support / line manage junior staff
