An exciting opportunity has arisen within the children’s diabetes team for a full time band 6 paediatric diabetes specialist dietitian.

We are seeking a highly motivated dietitian who would like to develop their career further within the area of childhood and adolescent diabetes.  We are a supportive multi-disciplinary diabetes team that are based on site at Dorset County Hospital.  We are a team of 2 administrative staff, 1 Health Care Assistant, 4 diabetes specialist nurses, 1 full time band 7 lead diabetes specialist dietitian, 1 clinical psychologist and 1 assistant psychologist who support our children and families with diabetes alongside our Paediatric Diabetes Consultants.  The majority of children we support have type 1 diabetes with a high proportion of these using HCL systems.  This role will enable you to help empower and provide evidence based diabetes education to children and families via MDT clinics, pre-pump dietitian reviews, HCL start sessions and annual dietetic reviews as well as provide support to our children and families at diagnosis and during their admissions to hospital.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of the Dorset County Hospital Paediatric Dietetic and Diabetes teams to provide an efficient and effective, evidence-based dietetic service for a complex caseload of children and young people with diabetes (CYPD).

·        To be a source of clinical expertise to the paediatric diabetes multi-disciplinary team.

·        To provide dietetic care for (CYPD), primarily those with type 1, in a variety of settings in the West Dorset locality.

·        To provide specialised assessment, treatment and support of patients with co-existing medical conditions requiring additional dietary manipulation.

·        To work as part of the paediatric diabetes multi-disciplinary team training other healthcare professionals, school and nursery staff and other care providers.

·        To provide support for junior members of the team and student dietitians.

Your line manager will provide regular reviews/support, to help you develop your skills.  The Department encourages CPD and benefits from good relationships with neighbouring Dietetic Teams, with twice-yearly Dorset-wide Dietetic CPD sessions in addition to monthly Departmental sessions.
