An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a registered Pharmacist to join our team at Fortuneswell Pharmacy.

Fortuneswell Pharmacy is a wholly owned subsidiary Outpatient Pharmacy located in next to the Fortuneswell Chemotherapy Unit at Dorset County Hospital.  For the last 7 years, our service has supplied of medicines to patients and pharmaceutical advice to haematology and oncology outpatients and healthcare professionals.  We have recently undergone a major refurbishment programme, and are looking to extend the high level of service offered to the rest of Dorset County Hospital’s outpatients.  We also provide a home delivery service to patients all over Dorset.

Fortuneswell pharmacy operates as a separate company to Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

You will be working alongside the superintendent pharmacist in delivering a high-quality, safe and efficient pharmacy service to outpatients at Dorset County Hospital.

You will be responsible for clinically screening prescriptions, as well as providing pharmaceutical advice to other pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals, patients and their representatives.

There will be opportunities to contribute to the development of services, and to develop relationships with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

You will also be expected to act as the Responsible Pharmacist in the absence of the Superintendent Pharmacist.

Salary negotiable dependent upon experience, including a retention and recruitment premium.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To ensure the safe, efficient and effective delivery of the pharmacy services offered by Fortuneswell Pharmacy.
  • To act as the Responsible Pharmacist in the absence of the Superintendent Pharmacist
  • To co-ordinate the day-to-day operations of the dispensary (in collaboration with the Dispensary Manager).
  • To provide leadership and act as a role model for the support staff at Fortuneswell Pharmacy.
  • To contribute to the improvement of existing services and the development of new services.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-registration experience as a Responsible Pharmacist in a busy community or hospital pharmacy.
  • Able to work under pressure in a busy environment.
  • NHS Hospital prescribing awareness (limited list formularies etc) which may have been achieved through dispensing hospital outpatient prescriptions or review of discharge prescriptions in community.
Desirable criteria
  • Hospital pharmacy experience
  • Experience of leading a team in a busy dispensary environment

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrated ability to check prescriptions whilst working independently.
  • Good and broad understanding of pharmacy practice in order to support and advise other staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work methodically and accurately.
  • Able to analyse and interpret prescriptions, identify problems and decide upon an appropriate course of action.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on own initiative, able to plan and organise straightforward activities, adjusting plans and priorities as necessary depending upon circumstances.
  • Excellent spoken and written language English Language skills.
  • Computer literacy and keyboard skills.
  • Able to work flexibly within a team whilst having the ability to supervise, motivate and direct a team.
  • Committed to continuing professional development.
  • Able to take responsibility for own actions and decisions.

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or Equivalent.
  • Registered Pharmacist with GPhC.
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree/Postgraduate Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent Postgraduate Diploma.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
