Job overview

Dorset County Hospital offers the opportunity to work on acute inpatient wards and outpatient clinics.

This post may include a wide variety of specialties including:

  • Older Persons Wards
  • Neurotherapy (Acute Stroke and Neuro)
  • Orthopaedics (Elective & Trauma)
  • Front of house (Emergency Department & older people’s assessment unit)
  • Acute Care (Respiratory, Surgery, Medicine and Intensive Care)
  • Musculoskeletal outpatients

Please be aware that this role is not currently eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants should be aware of the requirement to independently obtain ongoing right to work in the UK beyond the expiry of any temporary or time-limited permissions. Evidence of this will need to be shared with the HR Team to ensure our records remain up to date.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TR

Essential criteria
  • Diploma or Degree in Physiotherapy.
  • Registered as a Physiotherapist with The Health Professions Council.
  • Undertaken a range of relevant postgraduate courses
  • Undertaken clinical educators training
Desirable criteria
  • CSP member
  • Member of ACPRC
  • Undertaken appropriate managerial/leadership training

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • The ability to discuss clinical reasoning in the management of complex cases
  • The ability to identify and act upon adverse clinical signs
  • Able to communicate complex information to patients, carers other health professionals and team.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Good time management skills with ability to organise, prioritise and delegate.
  • Ability to self direct learning, be critical and evaluate own learning needs, demonstrated in a CPD portfolio.
  • Able to provide a high standard of clear concise, written and verbal reports in English
  • Good teaching and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage own stress and work in a stressful and unpredictable environment. To show empathy and fairness to give support to others
Desirable criteria
  • IT skills - Ability to create and/or format data and/or complex spreadsheets using computerised systems
  • Demonstrates excellent leadership ability and motivational skills

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Wide ranging rotational physiotherapy experience at band 5 level including experience in an acute setting
  • Experience at participating in audit and evidence based projects.
  • Evidence of actively participating in in-service training and MDT groups, and evaluating effectiveness of training
  • Experience and ability to work collaboratively within MDT
  • Knowledge of evidence based practice pertaining to the specialist area of Physiotherapy
  • Knowledge of national guidelines and standards relevant to the specialist area of Physiotherapy
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its implication for Physiotherapy
  • Awareness and understanding of NHS structure, current issues and developments
  • Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
  • Self-motivated with a clear vision of the role
  • Demonstrate professional independence
  • Work across sites in a flexible manner and adapt to changing environments
  • Physically fit and able to comply with Trusts moving and handling guidelines, therapeutic handling
  • Professional manner and appearance
  • Available for on-call, weekend duties and altered working patterns where clinically appropriate.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience at band 6 level
  • Experience in managing limited resources and high workloads
  • Experience of supervision and appraisal of physiotherapy staff and students with ability to give constructive feedback
  • Car driver/owner
  • Research experience.
